part of a double disc if you ask me!
Pros: they break from strong prog roots and enter a world of prog-pop!
Cons: an hour only leaves you wanting more...
This album is not for OK computer fans only and is a terrible comparison btw. This shows Steven's ability to write whatever he wants and never let you down. I thought because the songs were shorter and didn't have those strange prog structures they wouldn't be as good as Sky Moves Sideways or Signify. I couldn't have been more wrong! Each song delivers the same topnotch songwriting and musicianship from the past PT albums. To truely understand its brilliance you must listen to their previous albums. They define progressive with this album so perfectly. They have transformed their sound into something much more accessible to the world and have not compromised the music's integrity in the process. Beautiful album and a must for any lover of music. Fave songs are Evenless, Piano Lessons, Pure Narcotic, Stranger By The Minute, Baby Dream in Cellophane, A Smart Kid, Tinto Brass and the epic Stop Swimming. ...

Another Absolutely Awesome Album!
I remember when I heard In Absentia I had heard it was their finest. Stupid Dream and LBS are the best albums by PT. Both are just epic in everyway. Musically flawless and vocals that !@$#! Just beyond me. Buy this album or forever live in the dark. All the songs are wonderful so no point saying which are the best. Buy this and Stupid Dream at once. ... -

Damn eeeeeerie!
I heard of this band through a type of death metal band called Opeth. They were into the whole 70s prog thing so I thought I would go ahead and check em out. And boy was I blown away by this bands truly awesome sound! You have to listen to the whole album though to get the full effect of this bands power. Best songs would have to be Song within a song and Air Born! Buy this at all costs and snow goose as well! Pick up all the Opeth too! ... -

awesome album!
I'm a huge fan of music that just takes you through so much for an hour or over. This is a must buy for any fans of Opeth. I heard that they sounded alot like Opeth but I soon found they had a sound that was very unique. Very atmospheric and just all around awesome songs. Reminds me Opeth when I say that there are no favorite songs on here because the album is the real experience. You fans of Opeth will know exactly what I mean by that. Thanks for reading and plz pick up this awesome bands second album! ... -

Figures...
1 of 1 Yahoo! Users found this review helpful Thats why Death metal is not respected and the fans aren't heard. and we don't deserve to be either. Because there are soooo many simple minded riff junkies. Opeth are about diversity!!! The standards that I've been given thanks to Death metal is that EVERYONE CAN PLAY RIFFS AND SOLOS. Very few can bring diversity. Opeth said this would be all acoustic and no second bass pedal!
Please evolve your musical taste or realize you are an infant in the world of music before you critize a truly wonderful band. I love bands like Dark Tranquility,Nile,Death, Dream Theater,Stratovarius,CoB, Carcass,ArchEnemy,Rush, ...Zepp,Floyd,ToN
Blind Guardian, Maiden,Liquid Tension, and soooo many more! Porcupine Tree come in a very close second but Opeth are the best band ever!!! Hard to believe that SW and Mikael met in a life to short to make a truly unique album. Buy it because you LOVE music. Awesome production by the way thanks to SW! -

Just Great!
I'd just like to say that if you ever fast forward through Opeth you are a total idiot who needs to evolve in musical taste. Opeth NEVER gets lame throught this album. They are about diversity not the same growls and crunchy riffs. Anyone can do this and many do.(Badly)Stick to The Swedes for Death metal. Only because Nile is grindcore. Old american Death is awesome but the American acts need to move to Sweden for some lessons. Excellent album and I know the first review was just angry at SW not Opeth. Another timeless masterpiece by the world's greatest band. Pick up Stupid Dream by Porcupine Tree... ... -

Totally awesome but...
1 of 1 Yahoo! Users found this review helpful This album is excellent from beginning to end but doesnt measure up to the brilliance of Stupid Dream. Get your hands on Stupid Dream at all costs. High points of this are Heart Attack and Collapse the Light. ... -

Reason why metal genres are still the be
Nile seriously surprised me. They open my eyes to Grindcore which I have found to be pretty damn great. You just have to love music or be a fien for grind to like this though. Musically its unreal in so many ways. They manage to blend eastern instruments and styles into their own unique brand of grind. Buy this just to hear their awesome drummer go absolutely nuts in this genre defining album. You wont be let down. ...
If your looking at this...buy it!
Pros: Better vocals, better songs. Perfect album experience.
Cons: A shame it has to end somewhere.
If your reading this then you obviously have some taste because I doubt you just bump into this kinda stuff.
Every song just takes you away and keeps the album flowing along perfectly. Weeping Willow is worth buying this album alone.
Heart of the Ages is a great album too but this one is far superior in every way. ...
