Everyone who has a job can relate to the character
Pros: funny characters
Cons: a bit slow
I found many similarities between the characters in the film and the people I work with. Everyone has a person who thinks they know it all, a smart-ass, a cursing-machine, a so-called ladies-man, the flirt, etc. We have many instances with irritations on the job. We've met customers who you hate, love, mean, friendly, and always wanted to say something to them, but risked losing their jobs. Sometimes a job is all you have.
Many critics call this an immature, gross-out snore, but I call it a hilarious, gross-out reality. Maybe some of the things don't happen in the restaurant, but we will think twice before insulting or harassing the waiter.
Waiting has a cast of young comedians who know how to have fun. Ryan Reynolds plays his usual Van Wilder style sacastic character, Anna Faris is the girl looking to help, fans of Dan Cook will love him as the cook. The rest of the cast represent parts of the "Office Space" characters. The movie definitely has its gross-out moments, but the dialogue is hilarious.
If you liked films like Van Wilder, Office Space, and American Pie, you will love this film. This will become a cult classic next to Dazed and Confused. This is a movie to watch with your friends as there are many one-liners. "Welcome to Thunderdome, b****!" ... -

more funnier than the Wedding Crashers!
Pros: hilarious throughout
Cons: a bit long, especially the unrated one
This is one of those movies that focuses on real life situations and gives you real life characters. It is refreshing not to see an actual villain, unlike in the Wedding Crashers, which really killed the movie.
This is a believable story about those guys, like me, who are very shy towards women and always seems to act foolish around them. Steve Carell stars as Andy, a regular guy who keeps to himself, but enjoys his loneliness. It is when his coworkers out of the blue invites him to a poker game that his life begins to change. The guys, everyone has friends like these, find out about his lack of sexual encounters and feels they have to help Andy. Each guy has their own advice about approaching women and we see the hilarious results of their advice. Andy does finally meet someone who he truly cares about played by Catherine Kenner and the fun really begins.
This is truly a very funny film. The laughs keep coming and never let up unlike in the Wedding Crashers, where the best parts was the beginning. 40 Year Old Virgin is in the vein of "There's Something About Mary." I was also surprised how touching the movie turned out to be. Really felt true to life for this guy. Believe me I went through some experiences Andy went through, and I'm sure there are many who have been in Andy's shoes.
Highly recommend this must see non-stop comedy. ... -

Terrible movie with good car chases!
0 of 1 Yahoo! Users found this review helpfulPros: car chases
Cons: unfunny
Sean William Scott and Johnny Knoxville star as Luke and Bo Duke who are in a race to save Uncle Jesse's Farm from the evil developer Boss Hogg and Sheriff Bosco.
There is hardly any funny moments in this movie. There is a cheap cameo of the "supertroopers" character and this felt like a Broken Lizard movie with all the actors; after all, the director is one of the Broken Lizard guys. Unfortunately, this movie was beginning to bore me and it's only 95 minutes. The only good scenes were the chases as you see some fantastic stunt driving and drifting. ...
One of the worst movies of the summer, don't even bother renting it. This time I agree with the critics, this is a terrible TV remake!! -

Great "catchy" tunes album!
Pros: great sounds
Cons: last 2 are fillers
I absolutely love this album. All the songs are great to listen to and I know almost all the lyrics by heart. This is a great band. I was hooked with their music when I bought "All the Pain Money can't buy." That album also had great songs, but this album has unforgettable songs. From start to finish, It's great. These songs are great pick you up after a hard days work, which is what "Funny how it fades away" says. They undeniably have a Beatlesque sound from songs like "Goodbye" and especially "Love is expensive and free." The way the lead guitarist, Tony Scalzo, and the bass guitarist, Miles Zuniga, alternates lead vocals is what makes both albums great. I also recommend getting the limited edition of this album which has a great live recording of "The Way." ...

First book I could not put down!
Pros: fast-paced book
Cons: unnecessary romance inserted
I have to admit I have bought different kinds of books looking for a good story. About halfway into a novel, I get bored or uninterested and end up not finishing it. "Headwind" is the first novel that I read till the end. I even read this in less than a week. The pacing was fast from start to finish. Each chapter added more to the original plot.
The story itself is about a former president being charged with criminal acts by another government. The former president is protected by a rogue airline captain that performs some dangerous manuevers on his 737, in order to prevent the unjustice capture of the former president. In the midst of it all, the former president hires a trustworthy lawyer that he knew in the past to go against a determined international lawyer, bent on capturing the former president, and try to find answers.
The novel can be described as an exciting aviation adventure, as well as a great courtroom drama. There is only one thing bad about the novel and that is the unnecessary romance. That's why I gave this novel only four stars. It is not needed and slows down the action, but not by much. But after reading other John Nance books, I change my mind and give this 5 stars because it is one of the plausible of his books.
John J. Nance has shown me that not all books are bad. I will end up reading some more of his novels, starting next with Pandora's Clock. I recommend this novel to anyone looking for great entertainment other than a movie, even though this book felt like I was watching a movie. Exciting book overall!!! ... -

A Fun, Swashbucking movie!!
Pros: everything
Cons: nothing
his movie has become part of my all-time favorite movies next to Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves and The Mask of Zorro.
Pirates of the Caribbean has it all:
adventure: swordfighting, chase, thrills
comedy: Johnny Depp is the stand-out( plays a hilarious drunken pirate, Capt. Jack Sparrow)
suspense: zombies and skeltons attack
romance: Will Turner and Elizabeth Swan
All the elements of the movie work:
great script: Interesting story
great special effects: the quick transformation of skelton and human through the moonlight really wowed me!!
great acting: Johnny Depp and Geoffrey Rush play great pirates
I love these classic swordfighting movie and the Pirates of the Caribbean make an excellent addition to my collection. I recommend this movie to anybody!! ... -
Charlie and the Chocolate Factory (2005)

Colorful, but weird movie!
Pros: interesting story
Cons: songs and execution of story too strange
First off, the movie is more of a drama than a comedy. I was hoping to be laughing at Johnny Depp's comments, but was dumbfounded.
The movie begins with Wonka closing the factory and years later reopening the factory to the public. Unfortunately, only 5 lucky children will be allowed to enter. We have kids from different parts of the world winning including Charlie, who is lives in a run down cottage but has his family. The group is given a tour of the factory by the eccentric, but disturbed Wonka. Johnny Depp is a little too weird as oppose to Gene Wilder's sacastic, but lovable Wonka. This new Wonka is too strange and I don't think I'd feel comfortable with him giving me a tour. On the other hand, the factory itself is so imaginative and truly represents Burton's strange mind. The Oompa Loopa's is played by one person and the songs, clearly by Danny Elfman, sounds like he can't change his 80s new wave sound. In addition, it was hard to hear the lyrics, therefore the lesson to be learned was hard to understand.
The relationship of family is explored throughout the movie from Charlie's relationship to his family and Wonka's relationship to his father. The movie seems to be Tim Burton's way of teaching children the dangers of overindulgence and love of family. Unfortunately, the movie, although imaginative, was not very entertaining. I was hoping for more, especially with the combo of Tim Burton and Johnny Depp, but was left disappointed. ... -

Hilarious beginning that ends routinely!!,
Pros: hilarious first hour
Cons: second hour dull
would have given this movie a higher rating but the best scenes occurred in the beginning.
Vince Vaughn is at his best comedic role as Jeremy, who meets a crazy nympho who becomes too attached to him. Owen Wilson, who I never found that funny, is John, who falls for the Senator's daughter, Rachel McAdams, at one of the weddings. The movie goes from full blown laugh-out loud comedy and was becoming the new "There's Something About Mary" until the laughs died down. The movie ended as an ordinary romantic comedy, which are not truly funny. But overall the beginning hour had me laughing very hard and is worth watching to see Vince Vaughn at his sarcastic best. You will especially love the whole family dinner scene, which is the best since "Meet the Parents." ...

Went straight to video!
1 of 1 Yahoo! Users found this review helpfulPros: good acting
Cons: terrible script
The studios plan was to release this movie earlier this year, but plans got scraped. The movie had a great premise of rich teenagers wanting to be someone else. Anne Hathaway's character, Allison, is a latch-key girl who has parents in a rocky marriage, and she justs wants to get out of her boredom. But her journey into East LA is the cause of her boyfriend looking for drugs. These teenagers suffer from low self esteem and hide it through drugs, sex, and acting like hiphop stars. The movie set up the characters, but unfortunately ironically loses itself once the girls return to East LA. The plot becomes simplified as the girls try to join the gang and end up with more than they want.
Anne Hathaway does show depth in her character who is pretending to be something she's not. Everybody is also talking about her nude scenes, but I'm sorry, but the scenes do become hard to watch and you see these girls fall.
The studios wanted something more with this movie and so did I. The disc does come with a supposed trailer makes the movie a cross between Traffic and KIDS, but fails. ...
