One of the best indies ever...
This film, based upon the H. P. Lovecraft short story series "Herbert West-Re-Animator", is perhaps the best independent horror film of all time.Directed by Stuart Gordon, who did the later-"From Beyond", it turned the dated "Herbert West" into the contemporary "Re-Animator" very well.
I consider the special FX to be the best they could do with the $1 million budget that Empire Pictures gave them, and the acting from Jeffrey Combs (of later-"The Guyver" fame), the late David Gale, and Robert Sampson was just superb. It is a great start for the sequal released in 1989 and the third film to be released in early 2003.
