Days of Thunder

Cons: If you HATE! NASCAR, it is difficult-but should be seen
This is the movie that placed Tom Cruise and Nicole Kidman together, and filmed in North Carolina. If you are a "Tom" fan, and a "Nicole" fan, and you even *remotely* like NASCAR films or racing at all (not required!)... This is a MUST SEE film.
The story line(s) are believable, the movie has realistic action (not Superman!) and is, of course, a love story as well. There is comedy, competition, and true action on and off the race track (I am not a real NASCAR fan), and exhibits the realization of several storylines that can, and do occur in real life.
I won't reveal the line-this movie is a(repeat!) must-see and enjoyable film. ...

Dead Calm (1989)
Pros: Good plot line, beautiful ocean scenes
Cons: Once the plot is revealed, it continues forever.....
This "thriller" starts out innocent enough, as the couple sail the ocean to cope with the devaststion of loosing a child. The calmness seems to be working fairly well, and the couple are becoming closer as they sail along, when they pick up a stranded sailor in a lifeboat. This stranger tells a story of death that is difficult to believe, and while the stranger sleeps, Sam Neill rows over to the condemmed ship to discover that the scenes described by the person they picked up(rescued) does not match the story told.
At this point, the plot thickens...almost to a slab of concrete! It is an interesting thriller, but I could not help but wonder if the story would EVER end! I think the aftermath of the discovery of the truth on the condemed vessel was carried far beyond that necessary to make the movie.
It is interesting film and worth seeing; however I think those who see the film will agree that it extends beyond a resonable finish time, almost becoming boring even on the first viewing. The actors perform well. I feel that the film's weakness lies solely with the screenwriter. ...
