day of the dead
1 of 1 Yahoo! Users found this review helpfulPros: taut storyline and climactic ending
Cons: acting subpar,even for a B movie
This offering by George Romero is much more darker than his previous "DAWN OF THE DEAD". This film is set sometime after the last and now zombies outnumber humans at a ratio of 400,000 to 1. This fact serves to illustrate just how desperate things have become for the last of humanity. There is not as much action as Romero's last work but I feel the suspense and portrayal of humans brought to the breaking point is well done. The ending is very graphic but the special effects due seem a little dated. It would be interesting to see how the ending could be re-shot using todays computer enhanced effects. I definitely recommend this film if you are a fan of this type of movie. ...

Pros: The boxcover
Cons: everything else
Absolutely one of the worst horror movies I have seen on the last 5 years, it is not even a real zombie movie to begin with!! the cinemetography is awful and it is not near graphic enough for zombie film. This is a complete steaming pile of you know what. The DVD box would make a good coaster however. ...

dawn of the dead
Pros: Great macabre story
Cons: soundtrack could have been better
a classic film from this subgenre of horror films. Not as good as the 2004 version in the special effects department but this film has plenty of underlying messages and tones, something that was missing in the newer version. Over the top in the violence department{I don't believe this could be made in today's PC sensitive times] this film delivers in pure shock value alone. ...

A cinematic masterpiece
Pros: Riveting and well acted
Cons: It has to end
This movie is my third favorite of all time, it seems to have everything that a great film should have. Fantastic cinemotography, engaging storline, superb casting, and possibly one of the best opening main themes ever to be in a film. This is a movie that men and women will both enjoy equally as it does a great job of blending romance and action into one epic story. Daniel-Day Lewis is one of the best actors of our time(SEE ALSO "GANGS OF NEW YORK") and this film is no exception in showcasing his screen prescence. This is one of those very rare films that I would give a perfect score. ...
