I watched the uncut version but don't really see why this movie had to be cut in the first place. Don't expect blood and guts and really graphic scenes in this, but what is scary about this is that it is based on a true story. The remake is not far from the original but gives a bit more scare, in particular the extra footage involving the two police officers investigating the case. ...

Re-Animator
Pros: Acting is not bad at all
Cons: Too much 'fillers' in this one
I saw this when it was first released on video and then recently on DVD. The idea of the story was good but I really think that there are far too much talk. The 'operating table' was something to look forward to.
Sorry to say that this one may be a little over-rated, and if bringing back the dead is scary, I would rather go for Stephen King's 'Pet Cemetery'. ... -

Dawn of the Dead (1978)
Pros: Some scares and fun
Cons: Poor acting
I first watched this movie on video about 20yrs ago and thought it was great. Having seen so many others I still think this is one of the better horror movies made in the 70's.
I think that zombies walking around eating people may not be for everyone, but what I like about the whole movie is seeing how the actors try to survive and finding a way out in the shopping mall. It is not fair compare the special effects in this with movies of today, but I still think that it was good enough at that time. There are quite a number of graphic scenes so better not watch it right after a heavy meal.
If you don't mind the poor acting, it is still worth seeing. ...

Idea of the story is good and the movie started off promising. It kept me guessing at some point but the movie seemed to be going around in circles after that, and there are hardly any scares at all. When it is finally revealed what's bothering the little girl I just thought the whole thing tried to have the effect as in 'Sixth Sense', but it could have been much better executed. Just another disappointment from De Niro but this one just slightly better than 'Godsend'. ...
