Pros: Very quiet, larger than Miele, food grinder

Cons: need rinse aid, stainless steel smudges

My dishwasher pump broke and I researched dishwashers on cyberspace. I found that the Bosch had very high marks and went to Lowes and another appliance store. When I was at the appliance store, the salesperson told me that the Bosch did not have a heating element. In other words, the dishes are dried manually. Many of his customers were unhappy. If you can run the dishwasher at night and wait until morning, this is not a major issue. This is a major concern for me because I have a family of five and sometimes do two loads a day.

When the serviceman came to install the Kitchenaid, he told me that you should only use a teaspoon of liquid detergent. Do not overfill because the dishes won't get clean (they will only encounter bubbles) and you must use the rinse aid in order for the dishes to be clean. He also told us that the Bosch would not have fit under our kitchen counter due to height. So if you are interested in Bosch, make sure you have enough room under counter.

I really like the Kitchenaid for several reasons. 1) I love the stainless steel look... Modern and clean. 2) It is extremely quiet (50 db) just like the Bosch and Miele. 3) It has an automatic food grinder at the bottom of the unit. Unlike the Miele and Bosch which have filter system and you sometimes have to clean out the food yourself. 4)The Kitchenaid is a larger unit than the Miele and still has the same number of racks. Just like the Miele, it has an extra rack for utensils (in case of parties, etc).

I also recommend you purchase the extended warranty so that if anything does go wrong, it doesn't cost you an "arma dn a leg". I did. Also, the Kitchenaid is American made and the parts will be easier and quicker to get than the european made models (Miele and Bosch) -- 14 days.

The only small problem I have had is that some of the utensils have had food on them after the cycle was completed. The basket has little holes for you to insert each utensil in. I think the one or two spoons were too close together in the basket.

The Bosch was about the same price but I was really concerned about the drying. The Miele is top of the line but smaller and is basically the same. It is also $3-400 more than the other two units. All in all, I feel that the Kitchenaid is an excellent dishwasher for the money!! ...
