This is my grandest design in terms of size & weight of the floater. I've never seen anyone suspend a heavier item without power. The 1.26" ring magnet touches nothing but air. The arrangement only requires a balancing of two bismuth crystals & two magnets. A rod down the center of the sculpture prevents the ring from escaping, but it doesn't even come close to touching it while it's levitating. Simply twist the top magnet to raise/lower the floating magnet. The top tube is also adjustable. This work belongs to a category of art called kinetic sculpture, but it is also part of a growing movement that combines art with scientific principles. It is more than art that is merely about science or makes use of its accumulated knowledge, it is art that incorporates the phenomenon itself as the work's main focus.
