Perhaps the best example of its genre!

Troops of Tommorrow got me into hardcore back in Jr. High school in the early eighties. It was the first hc punk album I had heard, borrowed it from my friend Scott who was way into punk. It was great. This album, along with Punks not Dead, define t...he stereotype of the real hardcore punk of the early and mid 1980s. For anyone studying the history of 80s hardcore, Exploited are THE band to reference and these two albums are THE albums to listen to. Forget the American punk of the era, joke bands like the Circle Jerks or absurdly political clowns like the Dead Kennedys (who were musically garbage). No, Exploited were the most respected and influential band of the era among most kids at the time. This album has many classics such as Alternative, Daily News, Troops of Tommorrow (a relatively mellow but brooding cover tune), and the crowd favorite USA. At the time this was a great one to crank up and piss off all the neighbors! If you are interested in real underground hardcore punk from the early 1980s get this album and "Punks Not Dead." That's all you need to understand what it was really like in the sweaty slam pits ("mosh" pits for you young people) in some dumpy old union hall auditorium crammed to the walls with huindreds of screwed up pissed off kids on a cold 80s winter night. Man, brings back memories! Of course, as someone else has said "the Exploited never go out of style, because maybe they were never in style in the first place." Get this album kids! Read more Less

Pro Reviews: Troops of Tomorrow

  • All Music Guide

Troops of Tomorrow is one of the true landmark punk albums to come from Britain. This album is connected to the Exploited possibly more than any other. It came directly after their legendary Top of the Pops performance, and several of these songs would go on to be covered by Slayer and Ice-T for the Judgement Night soundtrack. It may not have the hooks of the Damned or the clever lyrics of the Sex Pistols, but in its place they brought a brainless rage that has been one of the sore points for punk purists for years. Songs like "Sid Vicious Was Innocent" and the uninformed "War" are blatantly idiotic, but work on an entirely different level. These songs are from the gut, and honestly, they were just following in the footsteps of American punk which had thrown cleverness out the window from the get go. The thrashing guitars and chugging riffs would go on to influence countless bands, from like-minded American artists like SOD and Agnostic Front to fellow British hardcore heroes Discharge.... The lyrics are mostly just politically inspired chanting, but the music laid down the groundwork for most of the punk metal that followed. Fans of aggressive hardcore punk should try to add this to their collection. It is a classic of the genre that has held up well through the years. - Bradley Torreano, All Music Guide Read more Less

Biography

The Exploited

The Exploited are one of the U.K.'s most politically outspoken thrash bands. Based in Edinburgh, the band is led by vocalist Wattie Buchan, whose supporting cast has changed several times since the group's inception around the end of the '70s. The band has garnered a sizable hardcore audience in the U.K. for its anti-authoritarian stance and criticism of the government,... Read more
