Pro Reviews: Slinky Tech-Nique

  • All Music Guide

Released in 2000 right at the peak of the late-'90s trance boom, Slinky Tech-Nique features many of 1999's best trance anthems. And since this is a best-of-the-best collection, in a way, this Slinky double-disc mix should satisfy anyone who enjoys late-'90s progressive trance. After all, the track listing is like a best-of list, not only in terms of anthems but also producers. For instance, there's no shortage of name-brand talent here: Paul Van Dyk, Ferry Corsten, Timo Maas, BT, Bedrock, Breeder, and more. Furthermore, anyone familiar with the Global Underground series of mix albums from this same era will recognize a lot of these songs. Tracks such as Bluefish's "One," Bedrock's "Heaven Scent," and the Coffee Boys' "Nipple Fish" became anthems partly because they were featured in the Global Underground series. Well, they're compiled here along with other well-known tracks like Freefall's "Skydive," featuring Jan Johnston, making this indeed a best-of-the-best collection -- the best t...racks from the best year for progressive trance. - Jason Birchmeier, All Music Guide Read more Less
