National Lampoon's Chess Maniac 5 Billion and 1 is a parody of the award winning Chessmaster series. Although a parody, the game honors the traditional form of chess in terms of movement and strategy while the humor comes from background sources. Examples include advice received when you ask the computer for help, animation of the pieces or simply sound effects generated when a pawn or piece is captured.

The game features two specific cultures as opposing forces Persian and Medieval. Adding to the festivities are various piece sets available for use such as, from the Persian perspective, the Sultan, Sultana, Warrior, Genie, Belly Dancer, and Persian Knight. Conversely, from the Medieval faction come the Medieval King, Medieval Queen, Grim Reaper, Wizard, Medieval Knight, and Jester. ~ Michael L. House, All Game Guide
