Love Story , with a happy ending

Have you ever picked up a book started to read it and just could not put it down? Listening to Vivian Green is just that. Her songs dab into several areas and you get a taste of different genre's out there that many artists fail to get into. Green... is also a good writer. Emotional Rollercoster and No more sitting by the Phone keep your ears open and your ears shut. She makes you want to listen to what she is going through. Her voice is just as powerful. I can honestly say (and this is meant in a good way) that when Jill Scott decided to take a back seat, Vivian Green came along and took the wheel down the same path. Although they sound nothing alike nor do they look alike but there similarity goes much deeper than that. Like Scott, Green pulls you into her music. Her stories, the depth. It's outstanding. Singing about ordinary things and having the powerful voice to take the listener to the next level. With this album you get variety, a beautiful voice and lots of soul. Congrats to Green on a well delivered album. Get it if you like the way real music is making a come back. Read more Less

  • All Music Guide

The neo-soul movement spearheaded by Erykah Badu and Lauryn Hill that gave birth to Jill Scott extended to the likes of India.Arie, Nelly Furtado, and Alicia Keys, with no end in sight as, in typical major-label record company fashion, AR people beat the bushes for every young woman of color who ever listened to an Aretha Franklin record as a child and thought, "Why not me?" Columbia Records didn't have to look too hard for Vivian Green, a Philadelphia native who was singing backup for Scott, to find yet another contender. Green is a likable enough singer with the usual romantic obsessions and a sense of generalized vocal embellishment. Her lyrics betray the influence of Scott in their wordiness, and a group of producers provide familiar instrumental beds to support those sentiments. But Green is at her best on the largely acoustic "No Sittin' By the Phone," which has a jazz feel and a real sense of romantic anguish.

Biography

Idaho

One of the most prolific, consistent, and unsung acts of the slowcore movement, California's Idaho centers itself around four-string guitarist and vocalist Jeff Martin, a talented songwriter who has gained comparisons to Mark Eitzel (American Music Club), Mark Kozelek (Red House Painters), and Neil Young from the few journalists that have paid attention. Despite the lac... Read more
