    Mature Sound, Same Scam!

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Sep 8, 2004

    Pros: More Mature Content

Cons: Their Harmonies Suck (Within The Group)

Hi-5's second attempt is a very interesting affair. Straying away from the sound that brought them out, they went to some more new jacks. The R.Kelly compositions:Quality Time, A Little Bit Older Now, Let's Get It Started (Keep It Goin'... On) and Video Girl showcased the young quintet as serious seducers. The only seducer was Tony-again! The rest of the album is banging. "She's PlayingHard To Get" is a slightly funky shaker. "She Said" is a teen heart scorcher with sexy background vocals by Roz Davis, Faith Evans and Daymin Miley. Background Vocals byR.Kelly, Dawnn Greene and Roz Davis on the R.Kelly songs are tight as ever. Now if you want to hear terrible harmony, then hear "Mary, Mary" which showcases the group at a terrible attempt at harmony. I guess getting session singers to sing their harmony lines is a positive money maker. My grade is A- for a more mature approach. Read more Less

    GOOD ALBUM

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Nov 6, 2000

Hi-Five's second album saw a more mature side, and is mostly filled with ballads and light pop songs straying away from the new jack sound of their debut. The album's first single "She's Playing Hard To Get" does resembles their old style and hit th...e pop Top 10. The follow-up singles "Little Bit Older Now" and "Quality Time" got more commercial attention on the R&B side, while the Hi-Five's pop career remained spotty. This disc is nicely arranged and produced but lacks the new jack sound and the group members are still not yet accomplished vocalists, though you won't be too disapointed in buying this album. • All Music Guide

Hi-Five is a melodic group filled with a mixture of soothing harmonies and soulful grooves, capable of enlightening the listener's day. With a recipe of easygoing percussion, ethereal keyboards, and dreamy vocals, Hi-Five possesses the perfect blend of soul and RB. This is best experienced on drives to the beach, back-porch house parties, and nights in the city, dancing in the moonlight. Hi-Five is another easygoing-breed quintet with accompanying producers who also did work with Boys II Men, ever present during this era. "Come and fly with me with me, my love," the group expresses on "Fly Away," sending a message of a cry for freedom and love. Their radio hit single is an engaging jam in which the boys profess that "she's playing hard to get, and she likes me." "Quality Time" is another appealing tune filled with fresh harmonies overlaying a passionate melody. Hi-Five reminds the listener of what it felt like back in the day, reminiscing and realizing that everyone's "a little bit old...er now, a little bit wiser now." This record is an excellent look into early-'90s RB. - Shawn M. Haney, All Music Guide Read more Less
