    Another Great Machine from Iriver

By Mark  Sep 6, 2004 | 10 out of 10 found this iRiver PMP-120 review helpful

    Pros: Tons of features

    Cons: Steep learning curve,price

This is another great machine from Iriver.Tons of features ranging from voice recording, music to video playing as well as picture viewing capabilities. The machine can also serve as an external hard drive using a USB cable.Video playback is what curre...ntly sets the bar nowadays as far as mp3 players are concerned in my opinion. This player doesn't disappoint. The screen is crystal clear more like what you'd expect from Sony. The picture viewer is also great as well.Sound is decent coming from one speaker is enough to power that sound. One feature that particularly impresses me is the ability to interchange batteries unlike other previous versions from iriver. The PMP should sometime in the near future have the ability to play 8 bit games such as those on old school Atari. That will greatly improve the players marketability. The only problem I have is that this mahine took me a while to get used to.Doing certain things such as browsing files in the machine was difficult in the beginning but the help button did help a little.Battery life is ok.I was hoping the PMP would do around 15hrs but right now it does 5 hours when playing video and around 10 hrs when playing music. It will be intersting to see how Ipod responds to this bold new step into portable video machines. My only suggestion to Iriver is that they should in the future allow users to record directly from TV or cable to the player itself.I believe Archos has already released a machine that can do this.Overall, great product.A few glitches that hopefully will be fixed with firmware will really keep this product among the hottest machines in its category. Didn't enjoy this product

By Andrew  May 7, 2006 | 2 out of 2 found this iRiver PMP-120 review helpful

Pros: Plenty of features (If you know how to use them)

Cons: Difficult Interface, no firmware updates, hard to use

I've had this product for a while now, and I am thinking about selling it after buying the iPod video which is a million times better. Anybody who doesn't know much about electronics will not know how to operate this MP4 player. I personally ...didn't like it because it's slow, confusing, and ocassionly malfunctions. I tried giving this to a friend, he simply gave it back to me after buying an iPod and told me that it's too hard to use. I am trying to sell it on ebay but nobody wants it. If you are thinking about buying this, I would suggest that you first ask to see this product and try to use it. Then make your desicion. Read more Less

With its maddening interface, its missing features, and a lack of video content sources, the PMP-120 needs to go back to the drawing board. Read more
