Pros: No iTunes, Multi-format compatibility, AM/FM Radio

    Cons: Cons?

I actually went out shopping that day about a year ago intending to buy an iPod. After a lengthy discussion with the clerk at Best Buy, however, I ended up purchasing an iRiver instead. And I have to tell you, it was the best gadget-related decision ...that I have made in my life thus far. For one thing, it was instantly compatible with all of the music already in my collection, digital and otherwise. There was no special software to install; the iRiver runs directly through Windows Media Player, found readily on every computer ever made. Ever. Beyond the realm of digital music, the iRiver also sported several other features that appealed to me that were lacking in the iPod. The AM/FM reciever is surprisingly clear, and a built-in recorder allows you to record from the radio. Moderately illegal, true, but great for recording snippets of tunes that you want to look for later on. There's the image viewer (supposedly to look at album covers, which is a bit lame as a marketing tool; but for a miniature family album to carry around it works fine) and a text viewer (again, supposedly to read e-books on the go; I've used it as a phone book / shopping list / memo pad deal). What's more, after a year of fairly steady listening, I still haven't experienced any diminished battery life. I've had friends who have gone through several iPods, and who have experienced nothing but trouble with them. And yet, they keep buying them, for no other reason that I can tell other than market saturation. The iRiver might not have as many cool accessories, or the name value, or whatever you want to call it that keeps people buying them, but it has one thing that the iPod never will: My complete and total satisfaction. Pros: Easy to use!

    Cons: Color availability

I bought this player and have had nothing but great luck with it. The ease of use and sound quality are superior. Battery life is very good.

    Beats the iPod

By AJ  Aug 19, 2006 | 1 out of 1 found this iRiver H10 review helpful

Pros: Ease of Use, High Storage, Good Battery Life

    Cons: Awkard Buttons

I was in the market for a new mp3 player because my old one was way too small in storage (128 MB). I consulated a few places, due to that the iPod was very popular. This player beats the iPod. It works with Windows Media 10, and plays all the formats... of songs that you want. Also, the voice recorder, the fm radio and fm radio recorder work perfect. I was able to get good quality when I recorded my professor's lectures. The only problems I found what that there is no tech support for the player, but you dont need it. also, I think the buttons on the side of the player need to be a little bigger and on the front. But deff the investment, espically if you dont like how iPods can give you issues Read more Less

Its the best one out there

    By HannahL  Oct 1, 2006

    Pros: everything

Cons: if you dont use it everyday the battery looses its "juice"

Personally i love it. I was debating whether to get an Ipod or Iriver so i researched both and Iriver is better. It's a little more expensive, but its alot better. It holds a lot. Its not as small as Ipods, buts its still wonderful. It comes wit...h a guarentee so you can always have one. I love it and I think its wonderful. Read more Less

    Good Product

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Aug 23, 2006

Pros: Easy to use, durable as all get out, wonderful quality, easy mp3 switching

Cons: not to great of a mixer

I have owned 2 mp3 players including this one. My first was a rio Karma. I will say with that one I really loved the random, and mixing capability it had, and that it monitored which songs I listened to the most. This one does not have that capabili...ty which is a downer, but it is far more durable, easy to own, and easy to transfer quite a few different audio files onto. So yeah its all in all a better player, yes it is only windows xp compatable, but when you think about it anyone who has updated in the last couple of years should have it, or know someone who does. All in all 100% better choice then Ipod, and one of the greats! Read more Less

    Pros: High Capacity

    Cons: Hidden compatibility issues

You cannot use this product at all unless you have Windows XP. End of story. Everybody out there with 98 or 2000... DO NOT BUY THIS MP3 PLAYER!!!!!! Nowhere on the box or in the IRiver website does it mention anything about this, nor does it mentio...n it in the nonsensical instruction manual. It's not until you try to install the software when a window pops up that says, "This product requires Windows XP. Please Upgrade your OS." Thanks for the head's up. Appreciate it. Now I've got the most expensive paper weight on my block. Read more Less
