His best rock and roll work of the 70

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Dec 22, 2004

Pros: Lots of warm distorted guitar driven Neil Young anthems

Cons: No Acoustc Songs but soft clean tone songs

This id the best of Neil Young's work from the 70's for fans of songs like Cinnamon Girl,Hey Hey My My,Rockin in the Free World, and Alabama you should enjoy this work if you also enjoy Neil's softer side of songs like Heart of Gold, Need...le and the Damage Done, and No More. The opener Don't Cry No Tears is very catchy with nice ringing jangly guitars, Danger Bird is very soft and warm with a slow steady beat the album's best moment I feel is Barstool Blues with some the best Neil Young guitar riffs and lyrics of one of his most passionate songs ever such as "Once there was a friend of mine who died a thousand deaths". Other songs include Lookin for a Love which has reveals Neil to have a more country than folksy side to himself before his country album OLD WAYS. Another song is Drive Back with catchy guitar riffs although it sounds like it was written on the spot. The album closer is Cortez the Killer once again with slow soft warm electric side of Neil full of guitar solos that would please one of his favorites "Jimi Hendrix". If you really like songs like Down By The River and Old Man you'll the combo of songs here for the songs both contain soft and hard sides the only thing that is not on this aulbum is an acoustic song of Neil with his harmonica which I always enjoy. Finally the only bad thing somebody could probably say about this album is the art work if they were an art critic, however I feel it's good for the type of album it it is straight old laid back rock Read more Less
