Cons: pricey, but very worth it

My dime store rice cooker died and I got online to shop for a new one. It was clear that I could get a hot pot with an on switch again even from the better brands, or get something very different for a whole lot more. Once I read the features of the ...Zojirushi and looked back at the others, I realized that I wanted the functions I had never known could come on a rice cooker, like the delayed start, audible chimes, and keep warm feature. I've got these features on other kitchen and household appliances and now it seems like a no-brianer to add them to a rice cooker. The price tag was pretty high just for special features and I questioned whether it really made "better rice". We are not Asian and are more likely to have a potato or pasta with a meal. Rice is rice, right? After much deliberation, we made the purchase based on the convenience features. I'm not easily sold on bells and whistles but the delay start and keep warm are great for busy mom like me. My regular rice brand came out the first time with an aroma, texture and taste that was fabulous! It was almost like trying a new kind of food. Had I known what really good rice was like, I would have bought it for the food quality alone. It's compact, easy to use and clean, and even plays a melody when it's done. Having a count down on the display makes it easier to plan when to have the rest of the meal ready. I will NEVER go back to a regular rice cooker. Should this sturdy little gizmo ever need to be replaced, it will be by the best Zojirushi I can find. Read more Less
