    Surprisingly good antenna

    By Philip  Feb 21, 2006

    Pros: Compact, works pretty well

Cons: I still don't have 100% reliable signal

I live about 8 miles from the Sears Tower and Hancock Bldgs. in Chicago. However, I don't have a real good line of sight and don't have the latitude to mount my antenna properly. I bought a Terk 55 and had a very unreliable signal. On a whim..., I installed the Zenith antenna that came bundled with a video card I bought for one of our computers at my job. With the Zenith mounted outside more or less on the wall of my two-story townhouse I get a pretty reliable signal. I'm still considering a more expensive antenna, but until I solve the mounting issues (I pretty much will need to put an antenna mast in the yard, which I'd like to avoid) it's pretty serviceable. If you're thinking of getting one of "urban" the antennas in the $100 range, try this first. It'll probably work just fine if you have a good line of sight and are within ten miles of the broadcast source. Read more Less

Decent antenna if you are close to towers

    By Ciemo  Apr 30, 2005

Pros: Works pretty well for close in stations

Cons: Doesn't receive all "yellow" stations

I bought the Zenith ZHDTV1 and hooked it up to the ATSC tuner built into my HDTV. Only a few of the stations were picked up ... those less than 27 miles away. Stations further away (30+ miles) were missed. If you go to Antenna Web (http://www.anten...naweb.org) you may be able to pick up stations that are "Yellow" -- those that can be received by a "Small Multi-directional" antenna. However, I was unable to pick up all stations that Antenna Web said I might be able to pick up with this antenna. This is a reasonable antenna if you are close to the sources but given my distance, it just doesn't work. Your mileage will vary. Read more Less
