This film is arguably the best in the series. Its mix of humor, trickery, pathos, ruthlessness, and swordplay are dealt out in superbly photographed scenes. The final fight sequence, which takes place during a fireworks display, is a dazzling piece o...f camerawork and physical play. Color is used to great effect throughout. Director Ikihiro was the people's version of Kurasawa, offering deftly crafted action films with a soul. Even the illogic of a blind man being capable of slaying 50 or so opponents seem plausible in his hands. I have several, but not all, of the Zatoichi films. So far, this one is my pick for being the most enjoyable after repeated viewings. The fight scene in the river is classic. Read more Less
