Yo-Yo Ma - Inspired by Bach, Vol.3: Struggle For Hope (Suite No. 5) & Six Gestures (Suite No. 6) (1998)

The final two parts in this award-winning series, STRUGGLE FOR HOPE and SIX GESTURES, continue in the collaborative spirit of the first four. Featuring Bach's "Suite No.5 for Unaccompanied Cello," STRUGGLE FOR HOPE focuses on the efforts of cellist Yo-Yo Ma and Kabuki theatre master Tamasaburo Bando in finding the spirit of the Bach piece in traditional Japanese dance. The resulting music-dance combination is powerful in its universal beauty. The final installment, SIX GESTURES, features world-renowned ice dancing couple Jayne Torvill and Christopher Dean. Masters of their art-sport, Torvill and Dean collaborate with Yo-Yo Ma in an interpretation of Bach's Cello Suite No.6. The final creation is stunningly unique hybrid of classical music, ice skating, and dance which is dramatically recorded by filmmaker Patricia Rozema.
