Pros: Great sound. Set up fairly easy, Super Picture.
Cons: Had to Add Powered Sub. No Bass Otherwise.
I purchased this system at a "Tent Sale". Got it real cheap. I thought I was getting garbage. Boy was I WRONG. If anything....the amp. is worth the cost, add a few high quality surround speakers, and you've got it. I am a very very demanding listener. I can only hear mostly from one ear, so I have learned to discern frequencies well. Absolutely no bass. The midrange is clear but not clean, and the treble is crystal clear. I however blame this on the speakers, not the system. Once I added a Powered Yamaha Sub to the system, KAPOW! The sound really pulled out. If you should come across this unit. Buy it for the amplifier, not the speakers. You will be very happy.
Pros: Price and Power
Cons: No 6.1 like advertised
Customer service at Yamaha e-mailed me and clarified that the receiver in this system is 5.1, not 6.1. The advertisements everywhere are wrong. Anyway I'm buying it.
Pros: Watts per Channel (100), Coaxial and Optical Connections great for Home Theater and PC use, Easy Setup with wires included, Excellent Listening Modes/Options, All the Decoding Formats you need, Doesn't include unnecessary things that will most likely break on you like DVD changers etc. Solid Construction.
Cons: boring remote
I looked at 5.1 surround systems for under $400 for a long time before deciding on the YHT-150. It has been perfect so far...
I wanted a system with coaxial digital inputs so i could connect my PC's surround sound audio... and optical digital inputs so that i can connect audio equipment in the future. the YHT-150 has all the connections i need!
it has 100 watts per channel which is the most i saw for under $400. dont be fooled by high watt systems that send most of their power to the subwoofer... yamaha keeps it well balanced, and i have all the bass i need - and more!
also, be careful getting receiver - dvd changer combos... the changers oftentimes break and then you are just out of luck. i chose to stick with a purely audio reciever. you can easily connect a nicer DVD player to one of the systems many digital connections.
you will also notice that most brands... their theater in a box systems cant be purchased as seperate components. NOT with yamaha. If you want, you can get just the receiver. i think this demonstrates how much better quality their products are.
good luck.
