Pros: Dave brought back that Deth feel...
Cons: Some songs too short...
Well, I didnt know what to think about this album when I first heard it...except THAT IT ROCKS WAY BETTER THAN RISK!! Good job Megadeth for putting out an awesome metal album, the world did need a hero, but I dont know if this was the album to do it, but a damn good try....keep'em coming Dave!
Its a decent album and has it moments, better than risk but not like their old stuff
but it ish better that yers. i dunt no i likes this album alot. this album has a deeper feel in the music. the notes are played a deeper pitch and i likes it. there are sum toight solos in this album. the best songs are 1,2,3,4,5,7,11.
for those that care,
enjoy
I like Megadeth but this one sucks. It's probably their least heavy album. It sounds too much like pop. I only recommend this only to die hard fans. If you want their really heavy stuff get and listen to Killing is my business...and business is good, Peace Sell But who's Buying?!, So Far, So Good, So What?, and Rust in Peace. But I at last I heard they're going back to their thrash roots. Well, lets see what happens on their next album.
awesome album no matter what anybody says about it if you like good rock or metal how can you not like some of the songs on here?
It's an excellent follow up to Risk, which left me a lil dissapointed. It starts off pretty well with Disconnect which has a great solo section. The World Needs a hero seems to rely too much on the chorus but is okay. Moto Psycho I enjoyed a lot cause of it's beat and the solos. 1000 Times Goodbye seems a lil long for it's own good but the live version kicks. Promises is a good ballad but is way too short, if the solo could be extended or an extra verse added it would be real good.
Recipe for Hate is like 1000 times good bye too long for it's own good, the Warhorse section makes up for it though
Losing my Senses is the only song that could be annoying to some people, but the Solo is excellent.
Dread and the Fugitive mind Is kick ass with it's riff and solos
Silent Scorn is a great instrumental track
Return to Hangar also kicks even if it is a sequal
When is great but the spoken word section feels a lil too long...Dave's try for an epic song seems to fall short but if a few kick ass riffs and solos had been added who knows.
. . . AND DOES! From the man who brought you metallicas first three albums, delivers an ass kickin' of epic praportions! I could'nt possibly express my feelings about this album witthin' the confines of this post; so I'll do this. FIVE FRIGGIN' STARS, DAVE! Welcome back!
*begins joyfully banging head.
I wish there's some way I could get this message across to Dave Mustaine. I've been a 'Deth' (megadeth) fan for a long
I just wish that these guys could crack their heads and come out with an album that has a mixture of the albums I mentioned. I'll bet it would kick major ass!!
Every song on this cd of the returning metal-gods Megadeth are cool and very great, Especially Disconnect, The World Needs A Hero (which will grow on you if you think it sounds corny, but Pitrelli really shows his ax-work on that song), Recipe For Hate... Warhorse, and of course Silent Scorn/Return To Hangar, sure its not as good as the original, but it is still a very good song. The only songs bad are "Burning Bridges" and "When" which is basically a rip-off of "Am I Evil" as well as sounding like "Call Of Ktulu" at the beginning. Yes I know Dave you said
Yes it sucked to see Friedman leave, but Marty, despite his godly metal-ax skills, did drag the band gradually down through the years trying to get Megadeth to go mainstream. Sorry Marty, but Megadeth sounds too raw, less polished, and too good for the mainstream. Al Pitrelli is a great addition to Megadeth, and definetly an excellent ax player no doubt.
Anyways great album overall, Megadeth is definetly back!
Great album! Thanks to the men of 'Deth for a "Return to Hanger"! The only song that is remotely bad is Burning Bridges, but that gets redeemed in concert. Recipe for Hate...Warhorse, When, Dread and Return to Hanger bring back the riffs of old while maintaining a contemporary edge. Not quite a Rust in Peace, but right there at #2 with Countdown to Extinction.
This CD see's a slight return to the old Megadeth.. However.. They don't completly abandon what they achieved on Cryptic Writings or Risk.. I'd say this album falls between Cryptic and Youthanasia... It's the hardest thing they've put out since Countdown to Extinction..
Ive heard all the megadeth albums and i must say this is one of the best. megadeth have gone back to their roots but still maintain a adictively polished sound reminisant of their mid to late 90's albums. but what makes this album great is that Dave mustaine has chosen to move foward by experimenting with various forms of instrumentation without sacrificing the bands core sound. al patrelli proves to be a great guitar sidekick, as eveidenced by his blazing one on one solos with mustaine that give the album its exiting edge.He gives dave the inspiration back that was sorely lacking from marty friedmans constant distaste with the band direction and trying to force a more commercial side that megadeth obviously felt very uncomfortable with. a true classic from megadeth. roll on next album.
I was very pleased when i heard this record. I only had heard one song when I bought it but it turned out to be a great purchase. Megadeth returns to the fast-riffing like you would hear on countdown, yet still forges ahead on songs like promises and losing my senses. Oh Yeah, and Return to Hangar, it definetely does the original justice. Listen and you'll find out.
great megadeth album. definitely not their best. I'd categorize the style of album to between coundown and youthanasia. megadeth says they plan on going more back to their roots in their next album. Things are looking promising.
best songs: recipe for hate...warhorse, burning bridges, moto psycho, return to hanger and dread + fugitive mind
definetly an improvement from RISK... however there are some flaws and it wasn't as good as I thought it would be.
Dread And The Fugitive Mind, Silent Scorn, Return To Hangar, Promises and Disconnect are excellent.
The World Needs A Hero is annoying at first but it grows on you after awhile to where it sounds somewhat decent.
Moto Psycho wasn't all that great;
Recipe For Hate... Warhorse was very good, however didn't sound finalized on the 1st part.
1000 Times Goodbye was ok.
Losing My Senses, Burning Bridges and When aren't worth mentioning. Those were annoying as hell.
Overall a decent cd, but don't expect it to another So Far, So Good, So What or Peace Sells (which I think are Megadeth's best).
All I have to say is.. I have listened to IRon Maiden / Metallica ( my fav ) / and this Megadeth just is the best ive heard in a while... and this is just the first megadeth i have listened too.. cant wait to hear the rest.. hehe
disconnect, return to hangar, dread & the fugitive mind, silent scorn & recipe for hate...warhorse are really good & fantastic metal works. these are definitely songs i enjoyed in this album, & they prop up the album & ensure that it definitely isn't a terrible album. but i didn't find the rest of the album strong enough.
i particularly couldn't stand the talking bits. they sound annoying & commercial to me. while songs like burning bridges & losing my senses at least seem decent enough, i honestly didn't like songs like motopsycho & 1000 times goodbye. promises is a good attempt at a ballad but its not good enough. another thing i didn't like is dave's vocals. they just sound pretty awful to me.
there is melody to be found here, but i felt the songwriting wasn't strong enough for some songs.
its not a bad album, looking at the quality of some of the songs, but there aren't enough songs that have strong enough & good enough tunes (& vocals). definitely not on par with any classic or landmark thrash metal works, but it is a good effort.
of course there are some fans & critics who still like those songs i don't like. & i suppose this is an album that probably deserves to get mixed reviews.
this is just my own opinion.
I'm a huge Megadeth fan, to begin with. This album was awesome. Dread and the Fugitive Mind, Moto Psycho, Burning Bridges, and Return to Hanger were great songs. The gem of the CD is definately Disconnect.
However a few songs on the CD, such as 1000 Times Goodbye, are very, very, annoying. The lyrics are pretty lame compared to other works. The few, but obvious weak points, is the reason this CD is rated 4 out of 5.
This record blew me away. The best record they've done since Cryptic Writings! Too bad that marty and Nick arn't with 'em anymore. But hey, they are still keeping it nothing less of MegadetH.
THIS IS ONE OF THE BEST ALBUMS I HAVE EVER HEARD!!! GET THEIR NEWEST ALBUM TO COMPLETE YOUR Colection!!! MEGADETH 4 EVER!!!
the album sounds like hell. the writing is un-inspired. and the mid section of the first song might as well be diamond head's sucking my love. dave STOP RIPPING OFF
this album was definately writen by a burn out.
This album is here to kick some ass and its here to improve that MEGADETH is here and they are the rulerz!MEGADETH will never stop BE MEGADETH!MEGADETH Will always kick some
wasn't bad... some songs weren't impressive but there were some pretty
Recovering from an album like risk was always going to be a dawnting task. But i put my faith in dave when he told us megadeth fans the new album would be "heavier" and much different from risk.
This "hope" was all in vain.
Unfortunately from beginning to end, TWNAH is a very weak and ordinary album.
In my opinion, it's main problem is that it's not innovative, it relies on various regurgitated riffs from previous albums yet doesn't offer the techinical precision of albums such as RIP and SFSGSW nor the feeling & melodical brilliance of albums such as Cwritings or youthansia.
In detail -
The songs structures - are very similar to risk, being short and simple and relying on vocals. The difference between the two albums is simple, TWNAHA is slightly heavier. However, unfortunately, "heavier" didn't mean what i wanted it to mean. It didn't sound any less formulated or more energetic than risk, it mearly had a slightly harder edge, which in my opinion doesn't make up for boring and uninteresting songwriting
The riffs - Although utterly formulated, and lacking energy, are still "Mustaine" quality. And are probably the best part about the album.
The solos - Are definately one of the key weaknessess on the album, which was expected due to Martis departure, however i never thought the absence would create a hole as it has in the bands music.
Daves Vocals - Have never sounded so annoying, which is disappointing seen much of the album relies on them. Although i love alot of the softer stuff he has done in the past 10years, i think if he truly wants to do heavy music again, hes going to have to take singing alot less serious. The sad fact is, Daves a horrible singer, he has a unique style which in many ways is one dementional, and he should keep to that one demention.
The album isn't all "Bad", and if your a megadeth fan, you'll probably still get something out if it.
But i think the sad fact which has come from this album is that Megadeths glory days are now over.
megadeth is still the best thrash metal band out there. how could u not like this album unless u were some queer who listens to today's pop rock mtv bull
