    Hilarious and beautiful!

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Dec 18, 2002

I rented this for no reason at all and found myself a NEW FAVORITE! Wonder Boys is brilliant and HILARIOUSLY funny in a dark-but-not-too-dark way. Tobey Maguire is stunning and wonderful, and Michael Douglas is fantastic. If you are an inspiring writer (like Maguire, Douglas, and Robert Downey, Jr. in this film) this is for you!!!

    Great Film

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Aug 1, 2001

This is truly a great film. The acting was amazing, and so was the writing. This film seems to change with the mood you are and and I consistantly funny no matter how many times you've seen it. If you dont buy it at least rent it. Its good for some laughs and alot more.

    Wonder for Wonder Boys?

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Jul 3, 2001

The Y2K in the movies really sucked but with one exception: Wonder Boys. I think everyone who had some fun in their college years will feel nostalgic and love the spontaneity and hilarity of this movie. Excellent cast, but I have to notice Michael Douglas whose performance I enjoyed much far from whatever he has done for a long time, and Robert Downey for whom I am really sorry we don't see much any more on the big screen. This guy knows how to still the hearts of the audience...
Go see it or buy it, don't waste more time reading this review... go , go...

Definitely has a place in your dvd coll.

By Yahoo! Shopping User  May 5, 2001

Magnifically performed by the actors and actresses...an interesting distribution. Frances and Micheal are stunning, hypnotics and what can we say about Downey Jr...when he's on the screen, the guy forces you to focus on his caracter.

    Fucking A

    DVD Content

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Apr 1, 2001

The DVD that I purchased (from a Suncoast store) contained no indication on the packaging that the enclosed product was a modified/edited version of the movie that was presented at theaters. This original movie received an "R" rating. Information presented prior to the running of the DVD apprises the viewer that the following DVD product has been modified to an "R-17" rating. After selecting the Play Movie mode, the viewer receives the notice that the product has been "edited for content." As I did not intend to purchase an edited version of the film, I did not play it, but returned it for a refund. Suncoast was reluctant to comply, but was encouraged to do so after I brought up the issue of fraudulent advertizing. This same issue occurred in the recent release of "Manhunter" on DVD. This product, referred to as the "Theatrical Version" is actually an edited version of what made it to the big screen, and was absent a total of more than three minutes of critical footage. Ironically these products still present the FBI warning against duplication of the product that was sold via fraudulent advertizing. Go figure!

    oddly inspiring

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Mar 19, 2001

There's something oddly inspiring about this movie's combination of jadedness and hope. Grady Tripp (Michael Douglas), for example, ought to have given up a long time ago: his writing is going awfully, his personal life is in shambles, and even crazier things happen DURING the movie, but somehow he just keeps getting in his beater of a car with a joint in the glove compartment and heading on. James (Tobey Maguire) is okay being homeless; Robert Downey Jr.'s character seems the most irrevocably dissipated, and yet by the end he's got a potential bestseller on his hands. The movie's Pittsburgh is hellish, dirty and always precipitating, and you really wouldn't want to share lives with any of these characters, but you have to admire their doped-up resolve.

    tobey does disturbed

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Mar 3, 2001

A film with many attributes, not least being the brilliant sombre performance by Tobey Maguire as a troubled genius, whose writing talents almost overshadow that of his teacher and mentor Grady Tripp (michael douglas).
Grady is in the midst of a personal crises as an affair with his bosses wife has left her pregnant while his wife has walked out on him, which leads to a series of events that end with assasinated dogs, midget James Brown look-alikes, jail-bait students, and excessive marijuana consumption. oh what fun...

    Wonder Boys

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Feb 24, 2001

I wasn't at all interested in seeing this film until I found out that Frances McDormand was one of the leads. I have always enjoyed her work and never miss an oportunity to see any project she may be involed in. Once again, she gave a terrific performance, and I found that I thoroughly enjoyed this film. The rest of the cast did a great job, including Michael Douglas and Katie Holmes, and I found the storyline to be incredibly entertaining. I would definately recommend this flick to anyone and plan to buy it, myself.

Frances McDormand keeps amazing us all !! However, I would have suggested to avoid that disturbing and not necessary happy ending, and may this "Wonder boys" wonder us some more after all.

    Wonder Boys!

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Nov 6, 2000

The critics didn't like this movie, but I did. Face it, the critics aren't always right. Michael Douglas is a great actor, as he is in this film. I do agree that it's not one of his best, but none the less it's still a pretty good movie.

One of the best of 2000

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Aug 3, 2000

Douglas gives a great performance in this underrated and underappreciated film from the director of L.A. Confidential. Very appealing to aging hippies and college students alike. Highly recommended.
