Pretty much PLEASE PLEASE ME all over again. Some of the songs written by the band are great, most are unremarkable. Some of the cover versions rock, most are just fillers. The Beatles recorded some great albums, but this one was just OK.

An excellent follow up to their debut album. Beginning with the superb album black and white photo shot the band sets new high standards in the art of album cover design. From now on the cover of an album was going to be as important as the musical content was.
Continuing with the music. The Beatles cover songs originally sung by black artists in a truly unique way. As for their own songs there is a distinctive progress in the writing (for instance in songs like All I've Got To Do and Don't Bother Me) and in the performing (Paul as a master in performing ballad type songs. John as a true rockin' artist. George with his characteristic Rickenbacker guitar sound which was so much mimicked by various groups even in these days and, finally, Ringo with his distinguished cympal work).
With this album the group proved to be artistically and commercially the top act in the east coast of the Atlantic. What was next was the conquest of the west coast. "Please Mr. Postman" - Johns voice showcases in this song. Also "You Really Got a Hold on Me"...we love you Beatles! "It Won't Be Long" a rare and wonderful song. Beatles Rock!

There's no doubt that I'm a Beatlemaniac but the second album is a little to cutesy for me (that doesn't stop me from listening to it though)I think George started to spread his wings with "Don't Bother Me" a fine, fine song. There is also another classic Lennon vocal on "Money" This album proved that the Beatles had something to offer and weren't just a flash in the pan.

How could an album with such hits like "Mr Postman", "Money", "Roll over Beethoven" et al. not be a 5 star album? I think The Beatles have some cover songs that sound even better than the originals!

Even though half the tracks were'nt theirs it still had good sound as an oldie,well worth the listen, if you are a true fan this album has the savage young Beatles true sound.it's well worth the listen!!!!

I think this album is great, its so simple compared to later albums(sgt,revolver,magic
