    "Windtalkers"

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Oct 18, 2006

Pros: It's good history, especially for youger generations, but for baby boomers like me!

Cons: non that I can think of unless you don't like war movies

I think it was great! The Navajos finally get honored in this movie where they used their language as code that the Japanese couldn't decode!! They helped the USA very much and
without these code talkers we would have had a lot of trouble. Great WWII movie. My Dad had mentioned the Navajo code (long time before this movie) but until I saw the movie I couldn't fully appreciate their contribution!!!Definately worth watching!!!!

    Pros: Story

    Cons: Acting

This is the case where theres a good story but the movie is bad and the acting oh my god get me some back up. Nick Cage
is out of his element not that he has an element but it certainly not this, do us a favor Nick go away and take every copy of Windtalkers with you.

    far better than the original

By Yahoo! Shopping User  May 25, 2003

this edition takes john woo action to the extreme. each battle sequence is literally 5-10 minutes longer. you will barely notice all the new scenes beacuse it blends so well with the original movie, creating 10 times more intensity. the town seige scene near the end is completely different and way more violent, its unbelievable! non-stop hoardes of japanese pouring in on the marines. enders rampage has been extended too as he annhilates several more japanese that are already on fire from the initial explosion. there are plenty other scenes that have been added to the non-action sequences that are great, adding more depth and meaning to the original film which WAS a little shallow. after watching this extended edition you will take a breath and say: jesus christ that was an intense freakin movie! as for the people that criticise john woo on the accuracy of the film well read the below:

first off, the Navajos appreciate this film and attest that it is very accurately done and also appreciate how john woo presented it, along with the opinions of white veterans who fought out there.

second, read a little. the japanese were insane. a very undiciplined army. they would yell banzai(just like in the town siege scene) and charge in huge numbers and marines have said that it was open season target practice as they would pile up japanese bodies 10 feet high and the japanese would climb over thier own comrades piles only to be gunned down by the marines gradually making mounds of corpses that rose to 15 feet in height. the stories are insane.

yes the movie is like rambo-esque. because the pacific theater was exactly that. the shelling and nonstop explosions, the constant gunning down of japanese troops who ran out in the open wildly is all accurate. the constant slaughter of u.s. marines is accurate too. shelling played a major part in the pacific battles. this was far more brutal and bloody of a war than the one fought in europe. the americans faced a better trained, and more diciplined army in europe, so the combat was different. yes the combat in europe was brutal no doubt, but the way it was fought was very different.

wait and see, there are a few films coming out based on the pacific theater battles, i wont be surprised if the battle sequences are similar to windtalkers. although, i admit, there is the john woo style to it where the overkill is glorified, but hey of all the books ive read, it is accurate to me. and oh how they loved thier samurai swords, brutal!

    Another Hollywood flop

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Feb 22, 2003

I saw this movie today, I thought it was terrible. Todays movie directors have absolutly no talent. As usual with todays movies, there's too much hi-tech action and no story. The old war movies are much better.
This movie is a B movie.

    UGH!!

Took a terrific storyline and made it into "Rambo Takes Saipan".

    You gotta be kidding me.

    Good subject / Bad movie

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Nov 6, 2002

Some action parts where well done.
The emotional termoil of what was to be done was not well expressed.
Gave it a 3 because of the subject.

A Very Poorly Done, Highly Unrealistic W

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Oct 31, 2002

Windtalkers is nothing but a bunch of hot air- the special effects are terrible- an explosion that is supposed to be a grenade looks like a napalm bomb going off- the war action is the kind of unrealistic fare from the buddy movies that came out right after WWII. The acting and script are terrible. The only redeeming value that I can see is the story of the heroism of those native Americans who were the "windtalkers," although even that motif is greatly exaggerated almost to the point of fictionalizing the whole story from what historians have said. If you have a couple of hours to waste- go for it, otherwise spend your time on something more worthwhile and interesting...

Reminds me of the old war movies

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Oct 21, 2002

It was a ok movie, but nothing that really stands out. I don't believe Cage ever shot a bullet that didnt hit a enemy soldier. It was a bit silly at times, reminding me of those old war movies put out during WWII with the rambo heros, silly enemy logic, cut scenes of cheesy stock navy ship footage, and countless save the day scenes. You remember the movies...they asked you to buy war bonds at the end :)

I never really cared about the characters either or was I ever on the edge of my seat because of the way the story was told; quite the opposite of other war movies such as 'Saving Private Ryan'. Its worth a rent...

    WW2

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Sep 26, 2002

Well although they could have shown more of the indians and maybe put the story line around them I think that the batle scenes are very true to what they were in WW2. They had everything from the Fog of war to bravery. Any one watching this movie should watch for the battle not the hokie drama they put in between. Cage doesnt act or even look like a marine.

    what about the Native Americans

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Sep 3, 2002

if this movie focused on the intended subject and NOT, I repeat NOT Nic Cage this movie woulda been great. but no they took focus off the Indians and put it on the "white guy".
