Pros: very imaginative, great metaphors...ooompaloompas

Cons: none really...it just doesn't fit that the creepy guy shows up when each person gets the golden ticket...it's not practical, how would he know?!?
I love this movie, it is one of my all time favorites!! The only part which I will critique negatively is that how can the creepy guy show up everytime a golden ticket is found?!? Were they really that advanced back in the day, did they have tracking devices on them or whatever?!? Just makes me think...N E WHO...I absolutely love this movie besides, because it is so imaginative I love the idea of lickable wallpaper and the Chocolate lake! Also Mr. Wonka has some pretty hott metaphors!! oOoOoOooOhhhh yea...I can't be forgetten about them ooompaloompas...lOl...the
y are pretty darn hott all up in their attire an such, plus that song of theirs is pretty hott!! I would recommend anyone to see this movie, this is an awesome movie!!!!!
Is magic, beautiful, simply and loveliest.Just Pure Imagination.
12/30/01; Yesterday, I was overjoyed to finally find a "Special Widescreen Edition" of "Willy Wonka" at my local video distributor. However, that joy was turned to outrage when I played the movie only to discover that Warner Bros. had not released a true "Widescreen" version but had simply cropped the full screen version at the top and bottom to make it appear to be "Widescreen". I verified this by using the P.I.P. feature on my T.V. and running my old VHS copy simultaneously with the DVD.
Personally, I think "Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory" is one of the finest family movies ever produced, worthy of 5 stars, but Warner Bros. actions are a deplorable attempt to placate, deceive and cheat the viewing public by giving us a movie that appears to be what we've been asking for (a widescreen version) but actually provides an even smaller viewable frame than the fullscreen version.
If you are a movie fanatic, DO NOT buy Warner Bros. "Special Widescreen Edition" of "Willy Wonka". You will be disappointed!
I can't believe that a studio would distribute a DVD in full frame without a widescreen version available. Thankfully, I have found Wonka in Widescreen at HMV (HMV.com) for $20USD (I think they're in Canada - don't know if they ship to the US) so for those of you that can't bear watching pan & scan, I hope this solves your problem.
This movie is filled with fantasy and wonder. It really takes you to another world. Gene Wilder portrays the eccentric Willy Wonka beautifully. Although the story has many elements that are unrealistic, this movie really contains a great deal of satire about life. It's a movie for both the dreamers and the realists, and for anyone that wants to see life from a different perspective.
FOR ALL THE SUCKERS THAT PICKED UP THIS DVD, I FEEL SORRY THAT YOU WERE TRICKED BY WARNER IN NOT SEEING THE 'WHOLE' FILM. RATHER YOU GET A CRAPPY 1.33 VERSION INSTEAD OF THE WIDESCREEN. I WISH I KNEW WHAT WARNER WAS SMOKING WHEN THEY SCREWED THIS ONE UP. IF THEY WANTED TO RELEASE IT IN 1.33 THEY COULD HAVE PUT THE WIDESCREEN VERSION ON OTHER SIDE OF DISC FOR THOSE OF US THAT ARE CINEMATICALLY INCLINED TO KNOW WHAT THE DIFFERENCE IS. THANKS ALOT FOR NOTHING WARNER. NO WONDER WHY I DON'T BUY ANY OF YOUR DVDS...OH AND YOU MAY WANT TO RE-RELEASE GOODFELLAS SINCE NO ONE LIKES TO FLIP IN THE MIDDLE OF MOVIES (THIS ISN'T LASERDISC YOU KNOW?)
This is a wonderful movie in full screen!
I can't believe people give this great and wonderful movie just one lousy star just because it isn't in wide screen format!
Well I just this to say! Shame, Shame on those people who gave it one star!
I would like to announce that I found this movie in the wide screen format on the Barnes and Noble web site. www.bn.com
It will be available on November-13th,2001.
Who ever wants the movie can go to www.bn.com
and preorder the new wide screen version.
Just thought I would let you all know! Edwin
This is one of the best kid's movies ever made. Do your self a favor and get this one for your kids, you won't regret it. I have a 3 1/2 and a 5 1/2 year old who always sing " I have a golden ticket"
This show is fantastic, I had already watched abt four times and i had not even get "sick" of it. This show is really worth the money buying!!
To all you people that are booing and hissing. there is a widescreen edition! I have it. i bought it years ago. it was released in 1997. so for all of you that waited, i'm sorry, because its been pulled for the 25th anniversary edition. and now i think i'll go watch it in all of its widescreen glory!!! ha ha!! :)
I love this movie and I am 15 years old, me and my friends sit around and watch it all the time!! A movie for all ages!
I loved the movie and don't care that it's in standard format. I think movies should be released in both versions so I don't have to see reviews from jerks whining about a specific format.
This version is the TV screen version. I won't look at it until they release the widescreen version.
Regardless of what all of these DVD purists think, the Wonka DVD is worth buying.I can't believe these people would give the movie only one star just because it isn't in a widescreen format. The movie still looks fantastic and the extra features a rather good.So go ahead and indulge your sweet tooth. And remember:"We are the music makers,we are the dreamers of dreams......"
I Was deeply dissappointed and surprised that this movie was not released in widescreen. One of the main selling points of dvd is that they allow widescreen. Perhaps Warner Brothers thinks this movie was just for children: a very sad comment on their ability to comprehend the movies they produce. After all what child could understand that the picture of the man who gained the last golden ticket was the nazi war criminal Martin Boorman?
But what is more surprising is the insult the release of this movie in "pan and scan" and not widescreen is to the american public. I have found out from a friend in England that this movie was released in dvd sometime ago over there but in widescreen format. If Warner's can do it over there they most certainly can do it over here.
Warner could have, as they did with "Witches of Eastwick", had one side "pan and scan" and the other side "widescreen". Apparantly they made a production decision not to do this even though they had the ability to do so.
The release of this movie in "pan and scan" also highlights Warner's continuing efforts to pave new ways of cutting production cost corners at the expense of consumer interest. They have a blantant history of cheapness and lack of care in the preparation and production of their dvd releases. Cheap cardboard cases, an eeire penchant it seems for simply recording their vhs tape releases almost verbatim onto the dvd format without adjustment for the superlative new nuances, and labeling of disc "sides" such that it is difficult, if not impossible to tell "side A" from "side B" as well as many other small but numerous failings too legion to mention here.
I happen to agree with the one reviewer who put it best - boycott warner products. I sincerely recommend this course of action until they seem to be somewhat concerned with consumer interests and likes and not merely their own production interests. There is a middle ground - warner just refuses to go there.
This particular release of "Wille Wonka...." vividly shows that refusal and Warner's lack of respect for their customers.
Don't Buy.
like the other user said, sign the petition. then buy this movie! any movie with singing midgets, rivers of chocolate, and flying glass elevators has to be good.
