Pros: The Angelic, Sweet, Funky Vocals and Stylings of Nelly Furtado..
Cons: Everyone of all ages love to sing her songs. Songs can be played out.
Pop music is not my cup of tea, but everytime I put in "Whoa...Nelly" in the stereo, it makes my head shake and makes my body moving as well as singing along to (Britney Spears even sang to "I'm Like A Bird" while she was cruising down a street in her convertible on the MTV show "The Diary of Britney Spears".) Nelly Furtado's music is infectious, catchy, funky at times, melodic, and fun to listen to.
I swore to my friend the year it came out I wouldn't purchase this album, but a few years later I ended up buying it and I've enjoyed listening to it and if a DJ would ever put her songs at a club, I would probably dance to it. My favorite tracks from this album has to be "Hey, Man!", "...On The Radio", "I'm Like A Bird", and "Turn Off The LIght".
her cd is da best! her voice is awsome..she writes and produces aher own songs how can anyone not like her...
This woman is absolutley a breath of fresh air. Her songs are so rich. Nelly's creativity is so profound that it bleeds through her songs, thus making them hits. This album is rare in that one could simply let the CD play without skipping a track. I just hope the next CD is just as good or better.
After hearing whoa nelly! last year 2001, i said britney can go somewhere. Nelly furtado is the true princess of pop and thaz all i gotta say. I'm a black male, i wrote nelly recently. I also like tamia, she's canadian and a very underrated r&b artist in the united states ;-)
I HAVE ONLY ONE COMMENT SHE IS THE BEST EVER HER VOICE AND HER IMAGE
Nelly Furtado's WHOA, NELLY! is your very definition of art pop music. It's just too bad Britney couldn't be this fresh and creative. Instead pop divas Britney Spears, Christina Aguilera, Mandy Moore, Jessica Simpson, Willa Ford, among others are synthetic xerox copies of one another, while Nelly Furtado sings the truth, and creates music more fascinating than Madonna at her best. Nelly Furtado is rhythmic and proves it very well on this top-notch, first-rate winner with nothing but brilliance to offer.
Unlike Britney, Christina, Willa, Mandy, and Jessica, Nelly shows how to perform a song using your heart and your brain, instead of tiring and overblown sex appeal that can't make good music. Nelly Furtado is truthful, graceful, intelligent, and just plain great on this album in which every song has certain elements that makes the tracks highlights.
The classical music and alt-rock/R&B on the first track "Hey Man" is the only song I know that's cheerful in saying, "Sh*t is gonna fly." Then proceeding the first, is the impressive "...On the Radio (Remember the Days)" in which Nelly Furtado sings about paying certain prices when it comes to fame, and how she yearns to her lover, or whoever, about going back to the way things were before. The song besting everything in the album is "I'm Like A Bird." With it's memorable instrumentation, R&B-lite hip-hop beats, and imaginative lyrics.
Other than that, WHOA, NELLY!, despite the comedic title tackles artistically serious issues that are risky to tackle for a singer who doesn't try so hard in being the next Britney, or Christina, even Madonna. The Canadian performer creates a beautiful debut that proves all you need is to really set your heart and your artistic side to your songs. Here they all blossom to life. Grade: A
Write compelled me to want to get Nelly's album wasn't all the Grammy nominations. It was the Winter Olympics playing, "I'm Like A Bird" during some of the amazing highlights. Plus, she performed there and gave a fantastic interview. I like in addition, Trynna Finda Way "I Lost My Heart in San Francisco", Turn Off the Light and On the Radio.
She's awesome! Go Nelly! Grammy winner!
EVENTOUGH ALICIA KEYS GRABBED AWAY THE GRAMMY'S BEST NEW ARTISTE FROM HER, I THINK THAT THIS IS ONE OF HER BEST WORK THAT SHOULD NOT BE FORGOTTEN.
the music is ok although the arrangement sounds the same but her voice is annoying... n i stil cant believe she won the grammys
This album sounds good as much as the artist looks beautiful, and that's not exactly what you can say of the most part of th s*** on the radio today. She sings from the soul, write good, fresh songs, and a positive vibe runs trought the whole work, allowin'you to enjoy this album from the first track to the last, with no point of weakness.
This is pop/folk music at its best, and, please, don't compare her to the bleached dollies of the charts just 'cause she's damn good looking. She's a talented artist, and this album is a good proof.
everyone who listens to this bul
I never cared too much at first about Nelly or her song, 'I'm Like A Bird', or the video for it. When 'Turn Off The Light' came on the radio then I leaned more into it. So I decided to give the record a chance (and why not...curiosity sometimes DOESN'T kill us) and really overlooked this woman. She comes along the lines of other female artists who try to make a statement, and Nelly is NOT afraid to say, say, say.
Take for example, '...On The Radio'. (The s-word IS mentioned on the album) My personal favorite also is 'Hey Man'. She incorporates other hypnotic grooves into authentic Latin-like tracks ('Legend', 'Party', 'Scared Of You'). I love the part where she sings sarcastically, 'I *sniff* Will Make You *sniff* Cry' *sniff* Another great track from an uprising artist. This is NOT your teeny-bopper like Britney or Christina. She is nowhere NEAR there...
You may want to listen to this album while you are on a road trip because you will get the maximum effect from the music...
i hope she wins some grammy's this year
shes nominated for 4
Tha album was hot. I'm wasn't really into her music, but now she's just hott. Her style is hott, so is her lyrics. It really helps Ur album when you look as good as Nelly. I give 5 stars.
