I can't believe how noisy it is!

    Pros: Available nearby

    Cons: Noisy, hard to level

I should have known NOT to buy this machine when we couldn't find any reviews for it; but we thought it would be good quality because of the Whirlpool name. WRONG! The "self-leveling legs don't work and the machine is so noisy, we checke...d to see if there was a gnome inside pounding on the drum with a hammer. We tried different water levels and different cycles, but no change in the overall noise factor. Don't buy this model unless you have nothing better to do than take it back. Read more Less

Pros: 3/4 inch shorter than Maytag.positive agitation action.

Cons: Agitator rotation only quarter turn.Wrap around sheet metal makes repair difficult.

A month ago we replaced a Maytag whasher with a Whirlpool 5300. The Maytag's drum seal failed after 7 years. The seal's metal face wore to nothing. A ceramic face would have lasted much longer. I hope Whirlpool uses a better drum seal than M...aytag. Time will tell. Otherwise, this whasher appears to be satisfactory. The agitator seems a bit more responsive than the Maytag probally due to the direct drive design rather than belt drive. My only complaint is the quarter(90 deg.) turn agitator rotation of the Whirlpool. The same as Maytag. I may be wrong about this but I remember washers 15 years ago with much better agitation(and better at cleaning) than modern machines. Has the agitation gear box been re-designed with a shorter arc?
