User Reviews: We re No Angels (1989)

  • Overall:

    Hard to believe

By Louis  Jul 28, 2002 | 1 out of 1 found this We re No Angels (1989) review helpful

I enjoyed this movie, but even though the whole premise of the movie calls for the willing suspension of disbelief some parts of it went beyond belief. It shows a lack of knowledge of Catholic Monasticism and of Catholic rites. The scene where Sean... Penn's character is suposed to be saying Mass is way out. It is obvious that he doesn't know what he is doing, but the people attending don't seem to see anything amiss. In real life the congregation would wonder if he had lost his mind and would not give him a standing ovation. Also I wondered why the Byzatine Cathoics (Orhodox?) were doing making a procession to the monastery. If these kind of things don't bother you though it is a humorous film. Read more Less
