The first thing you'll notice after putting on the Hi-Town DJs' debut album, We Came to Groove, is their awesome bottom-heavy sound, which sometimes unfortunately gets overshadowed by their sophomoric, sexual wordplay. Still, the beats laid down on the album are often irresistible dance rhythms, so it makes up for the lyrical inconsistencies. "It's On" is a strong opener, which would sound perfect being blasting in a dance club, while "Ding-A-Ling" somehow combines Funkadelic sounds with early MC Hammer-style rapping. Rap legend Kurtis Blow makes a cameo appearance on "We Came 2 Groove," which (as the title says) is one of grooviest rhythm-popping tracks on the record. Another bass band, Afro-Rican, adds their raps to four tracks ("Stand By Me," "Thank U Ma'am," "Down Low," and "I Got Money"), which fits the festive atmosphere perfectly. Other highlights include "Junk in the Trunk" and a special CD-only bonus mix of "Stand By Me" (listed as a Young Lord Remix). - Greg Prato, All Music ...Guide Read more Less

All of the band's members originally hailed from either Florida or Hawaii, and were originally assembled by Matt "xsdb" Yo... Read more
