    Kasey Does It Again

By Bye Bye  Jun 13, 2006

Pros: good mix of upbeat songs and ballads, nice lyrics

Cons: a couple of songs sound twangy

Kasey Chambers reaches out for a more contemporary sound for this CD. She still has her feet firmly planted in the country/alt. country genre but she branches out to add a more mainstream sound. I like this cd alot because she gives you a good mix of... upbeat songs and still ballads that speak to your heart. The only small con I would mention is in a couple of songs she uses a more twangy banjo background and I didn't care for that too much but they are still good songs. Have a listen..she is worth one.. ANGEL ON THE WAY

    By bluescowboy2003  Aug 22, 2004

    Pros: SONGWRITING WITH HOOKS

    Cons: BACK TO THE CAPTAIN

Motherhood and maturity has hit Kasey full on. Stardom too, just listen to the words of "Hollywood".But the childlike qualities and delight she has in singing one of her lighter tunes,'Pony', shows that Kasey is still filled with yo...uth!The hooks are there too....all over the shop!Listen to "More Than Ordinary" and "Stronger" once and you will be singing along. She has the goods this young woman.First time I heard this CD was at a listening post while I waited to pick up a child of mine from a party...and I cried, I smiled, I laughed.(I kid you not!)Kasey has the capability in her songwriting to hit the nerves.Listen closely to "Paper Aeroplane" and if that does not send chills up and down your spine....well, simply, you're Dead! And I think she has more then tipped her Stetson to Lucinda and Buddy Miller with "Guilty as Sin". Ahhh i dream of Lucinda coming out and the two of them dueting....my front row seats at the Enmore for Lucindas show last year(where she no showed due to family matters)were in honor of that possibility. Next time! She 'never wanted anything but a record or a band" and she has more then that now...but Kasey, all we want is more of your records and your band!! Buy it! Read more Less

Pro Reviews: Wayward Angel

  • All Music Guide

When Kasey Chambers sings, she manages the notunremarkable accomplishment of splitting the difference between Emmylou Harris's crystalline purity and Lucinda Williams's roughhewn emotional honesty, and the most startling thing is you sense she sounded like this before she ever heard of either artist. Chambers' songwriting is no less remarkable, and connects in much the same way, chronicling matters of the heart and soul in a manner that achieves a genuine and unaffected beauty with just a dash of the truthful messiness that comes with being human. Chambers's third solo album, Wayward Angel, is perhaps a bit less striking than her first two sets, The Captain and Barricades Brickwalls, if only because she staked out her style on those sessions, and here she's harvesting from the ground she broke earlier on. But this also sounds like her most accomplished effort to date. Whether she sings from the perspective of a precocious child ("Pony"), a woman with a serious case of lust ("Guilty as... Sin"), or an elderly man ("Paper Aeroplane"), Chambers never fails to hit the right note as a lyricist, or make a false step as a vocalist, and Wayward Angel is informed by a confidence that never sinks into arrogance. Chambers is also lucky to have her brother Nash Chambers on hand as producer, who has paired Kasey with a team of gifted pickers who add color to the songs without cluttering the landscape, and captured the results in an admirably straightforward manner. Wayward Angel is the work of a strikingly talented singer and songwriter, and it's simply a pleasure to hear Kasey Chambers work anyone who doubts that this woman is a major artist needs to hear this album as soon as possible. - Mark Deming, All Music Guide Read more Less
