    Gritty Memoir

    Pros: An everything goes memoir about a somewhat mysterious disease

    Cons: sometimes very hard hitting and graphic

    This book is a memoir by Ms. Hornbacher about her travel through the world of anorexia and bulimia. It is gritty and hardhitting, and the author does not sugarcoat anything. She tells it like it was, from the first time she threw up when she was 8 to... her almost deathbed. The book is fairly short and a quick read. I could hardly put it down it was so good. There are unique titles to every chapter with great quotes that tease what will be inside. It is clear from this novel that eating disorders are difficult and damaging... not only to the victim but to everyone around them. The author provides an afterward where she tells of the lasting impact the disease has had on her. This is an amazing book with great writing. I highly recommend it. Read more Less
