    Forget the washboard, which was almost more a prop than an instrument. Robert Brown was a captivating vocalist and an expert at working off his sidemen, and he coaxed creditable riffs out of that washboard, even if they all sounded the same. This is peak material, done when he was in excellent voice and hadn't yet gotten stagnant in his material or approach.
