Pros: Great suspense
Cons: contrived ending
I was a little relunctant in seeing War of the Worlds because of the reviews in how badly it ended. But I did see it and the ending maybe farfetched, but the rest of the movie made up for it.
This is a simple run-for-survival monster movie, in which the aliens are monster who continually attack. It is a fast-paced movie with non-stop suspense. This movie easily had my heart going throughout. There was little time to breathe as once the family escapes a situation, all of a sudden we encounter another one. There is very little music, which makes it very effective once heard.
In addition, the movie appears to be a tribute to many of Spielberg's blockbuster. It becomes fun trying to see the references to his movie. See if you can find them all.
Lastly, don't go by the critics who hated the movie because of the ending. The movie was so intense that it must have been tough to try to end it. This movie could have easily kept going.
I highly recommend it as a fun, scary, and heartpounding popcorn movie.
Pros: effects
Cons: needed a little more reason,
it was a cool movie,in the opening parts of the flick when the thing comes out of the ground , and starts frying people .lol, that was a crack up.and the blood plant thing blew my mind, hey people its worth seeing at least once, you should enjoy it.it definitly keept my attention.
Pros: Fast paced and action packed
Cons: seems to drag on a bit.. and really unrealistic
This movie is really good for when you want to just veg out and watch an action movie -- but do not expect any reality in it!
Pros: Stunning opening sequence.
Cons: The ending is flat and uninspired compared to the rest of the film.
America and the rest of the world can rejoice we finally have a legitimate reason to take ourselves back to the movies. If there has ever been a movie that needed to be seen in a theatre, then this is it. Going to the movies used to be about the experience, rather than just killing time or spending a night out with your friends. Going to the movies was something to be cherished and remembered with glee well, here is the reason to do just that. With War of the Worlds, Steven Spielberg ushers in an entire new type of cinema: the summer blockbuster with a heart, great characters, absolutely amazing special effects, and some truly horrific elements.
The film opens by introducing us to Tom Cruise's character Ray Ferrier and quickly establishing the fact that he is somewhat of deadbeat. His pregnant ex-wife, played by Miranda Otto, is waiting for him when he arrives home from work with their two kids, ready to drop them off for the weekend and head to Boston with her new husband. There is an engine block on his kitchen table, his somewhat grown kids, played by newcomer Justin Chatwin and Dakota Fanning, share a small room, and he has no real food in his refrigerator. Soon, though, all of this is forgotten as weird lightning storms wreak havoc around the neighborhood. They are thunder-less and all of the lightning strikes in the same place. Ray goes off to investigate, leaving Robbie and Rachel at the house. The following scene is by far one of the most harrowing and best-directed sequences committed to film. The hole the lightning created opens up into a crater, and a monstrous tripod fighting- machine emerges from the intersection. There is little pretense as the tripod starts annihilating every thing in sight, announcing its intentions with a thunderous and utterly scary sonic blast.
This movie skirts the line between PG-13 and R, and this scene is a prime example of why it does this. Spielberg, for the most part, keeps his camera low to the ground and amid his characters on screen, creating real tension and horror as the tripods start "dusting" people with their heat rays. The vehemence that they go around wiping people out with is astonishing and compelling it reminds one of the images coming directly after the World Trade Centers' collapse.
The first 30 minutes of the movie are so breathtaking that I literally did not blink. This is film-making at its best there is visceral intensity that has probably never been matched and there are characters at the center of it all that we have reason to care about.
Following this, the movie take calms down, and eventually peters out. See this for the first 2/3, though, because you will be very glad you did.
Pros: PROBABLY BETTER THAN ORIGINAL
Cons: REMAKE
I NEVER SEEN THE ORIGINAL. BUT I REALLY LOVED THIS MOVIE. THE SPECIAL EFFECTS WERE PRETTY GOOD AND SOME SCENES WERE SHOCKING TO ME- I DONT WANT TO GIVE ANYHTING AWAY IF YOU HAVE NOT SEEN IT. IT IS UP THERE AS ONE OF MY FAVORITES THAT I HAVE SEEN. I WOULD RECOMMEND IT, OVER AND OVER AGAIN...
Pros: It kept my interest
Cons: I was disappointed with the plot and the ending
This is probably a nice movie for a Sci- fi fan. I likes the acting.. Dakota Fanning did great!.. Tom Cruise was ok... ;)The whole plot was silly and the ending even more ridiculous. I couldn't find anything else at Blockbuster so I ended up with this.. It was JUST OK.. Glad I didn't go to the theater to see it.
Pros: Action
Cons: none
My bf and I loved this movie. We seen in in theaters first when it first came out..then we got it on DVD. I've seen it for a total of about 4 or 5 times. I got to admit though,... I do get a little scared of those things haha the sound they make,... I can't watch this movie at night. I know I'm a sissy. It had an unexpected ending. Over all I liked it.
Pros: One good alien scene
Cons: Everything minus the alien scene
What's more annoying than the aliens cutting up people with particle weapons? The role of the codependant family portrayed by Tom Cruise as the father.
The "War of the Worlds" is a stupid, fetid, psycho burp like virtually every other Tom Cruise movie.
All the family members do in the movie is fight with eachother.
And even when the aliens are defeated, the misfits still can't act as humans, but have to posture like they still don't like eachothers politics.
Maybe there is some goofy Scientology message in there somewhere.
Gentlemen, check your E meters....
Dumb, dumb dumb.
Pros: Kept your attention.
Cons: Beginning wasn't to clear the ending was to confusing.
The best part of the movie was when the action was going on. The thing was that there was alot of action, but what caused it? I didn't really get why they spent so much time on all of the crashes and riots and violence; then they ended it with an ambiguous ending. yeah I understood it but I found it to be a little stupid. I don't think I would watch a whole bunch of times.
Pros: LOOK
Cons: HELO 2
piease i what u to sen me the HELO 2 within next year through this address williams mireku p,o. box kt 286 kotobabi accra GHANA I HOPE TO HEAR FROM U SOON
Pros: Good Effects
Cons: Bad Movie
This was a ok movie all around. The effects were pretty good. But the poibt of it was not too good.
Pros: special effects
Cons: everything else
the dvd itself: picture was great, sound was great. the movie: a complete waste of my existance. I have to agree with Kevin's review whole heartedly.
Pros: Special Effects
Cons: Some Acting
I don't know whether I like it or hate it. Maybe the mood I was in is influences my decision but I loved the special effects but the movie wasn't that great because none of the main characters died. they seemed to escape everything and go unharmed and always find a way to outrun the others.
Pros: It was exselent because the lighting coming down from the sky was amazon
Cons: The thing I didn't like about it was the special fetures
The War Of The Worlds was an exselent movie better then the 1952 version. The effects was exselent and I Im looking forward to Whatch the again.
Pros: Special effects
Cons: Too much hype, maybe
I saw this movie on DVD for the first time and I thought the movie was pretty good. I've never seen the origional but the picture was impressive, was probably one of those movies that were really meant to be watched in the theater though... I guess when you hear names like Spielberg and Tom Cruise, the anticipation would be inevitably high and I personally found the film didn't quite live up to that... not a bad film, but it was just another Blockbuster and no more or less than that.
