As part of the Dancing Cat Hawaiian Slack Key Guitar Masters series, this installment of the works of Ray Kane shines through wonderfully. Kane is accompanied on various vocal tracks by his wife Elodia. The slack key guitar style native to Hawaii (since the coming of Portuguese cowboys to the islands) has had a few masters over the years (Sonny Chillingworth, the Pahinui family, Ledward Kaapana), and Kane is certainly among the masters. He demonstrates some of the major tunings of the genre, and more importantly demonstrates the heart that can go into the playing. For newcomers to slack key, his work is a superb starting point, and the Dancing Cat anthologies are nice demonstrations of his work. For those that are well informed on the genre, he probably already has a special place on the racks.
