Hail the king
, October 31, 2001This is in my opinion one of the finest albums from the king. From the beginning we can tell that this has all the usual: eerie vocals from the king himself that goes from a deep devilish growl to a high falsetto scream to give you thrills, an elegant guitar riffing and excellent soloing from Larocque, and of course a typical twisted story coming straight out of a horror movie. This is my favourite along with Abigail from Diamond's solo effort. If you liked this, you might wanna try Abigail, Them and of course Melissa and Don't Break the Oath from his Mercyful Fate debut. Standout tracks: LOA house, Voodoo, One down two to go and finally the exorcist which I consider one of the best songs ever that perfectly defines the term Heavy Metal!! ...

Pro Reviews: Voodoo
| EXPERT RATING: From AMG Reviews On King Diamond's eighth concept album, the prolific horror rocker hasn't entirely run out of ideas, although the material on Voodoo is generally predictable. Set in New Orleans, the story line is loaded with more witchcraft, haunted houses, and ghosts. The music stays true to form as well; Diamond's cartoonishly ghastly vocals haven't lost any of their bite, long running sideman Andy LaRocque maintains his own high level of proficiency on the guitar, and the band in general turn in dependably workmanlike performances. Overall, King Diamond achieves a sort of musical equivalent to the classic Hammer horror films of the 1960s. He invests a sincere enthusiasm in his work that is hard not to appreciate. - Andy Hinds, All Music Guide |
