Synopsis: Volcano (1997)
Synopis: Los Angeles. It is perhaps best known as the entertainment capital of the world--a sun-kissed golden metropolis of glitz and glamour. To others it represents something very different. Millions more recognize The City of Angels as the unwilling epicenter of virtually every natural disaster--including earthquakes, firestorms and mudslides. Now the city which has become almost a byword for disaster is about to experience its most cataclysmic event ever, one that will ultimately test its ability to survive. A vent in the earth's crust has unleashed an incredible force of nature. The literally earth-shattering product: an erupting Volcano... and ground zero is L.A.'s famed La Brea Tar Pits. An unprepared Los Angeles is facing its worst nightmare as an endless stream of fiery, deadly lava insidiously creeps across traffic-choked streets while wreaking havoc below ground in the labyrinth of man-made natural tunnels.Features: Volcano (1997)

A very good movie
, June 1, 2001Reviewer: geo_farl - See all geo_farl's reviewsI was impressed with the special effects which were awesome, however I came away from this movie even more impressed by the emotions it stirred, influenced by the bravery and heroism of what I would consider everyday men and women...city employees. Tommy Lee Jones is magnificent as is Anne Heche, and Don Cheadle, a very good actor, steals the show when he's on screen. Their characters, despite their cynical approach to life, pull together to fight a foe that is indestructable...mother nature. It's corny in almost any other movie, but here it really works. ... -
Do we really care if L.A. gets volcanoed
, February 1, 2001Reviewer: burns751 - See all burns751's reviewsI don't, but apparently many do. This came out about the same time as Dante's Peak, another volcano movie. I liked this one a bit better only because it takes place in a large city, rather than the country town. The story is kinda silly, but disaster movie buffs will like the aspect of humanity banding together to stop something trying to destroy them. Isn't that what disaster movies are supposed to be about? Typical strong performance by Tommy Lee Jones in a weak role. ...
