Vol. 3: Life And Times of S. Carter

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Feb 10, 2006

Pros: Lyrical content held this album together

Cons: Weak production and guest appearances

As an avid Jay-Z fan, this was not one of his best releases. Over the years I used to think Vol. 1 was the worse one but as I gotten older I realized that this was his worst one. Not to say that this LP sucked because if anybody released this as an album it would probably be a great album by standard. Just not the usual Jay we all know and love.

Jigga who, Jigga what ,Jigga the best.

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Aug 8, 2002

This album right here is a modern day classic. It is hot from top to bottom. I really like "dope man", "things that you", and "there's been a murder". Mariah Carey put alot of spice into "Things that you do".

    His 2nd Best Album!

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Feb 8, 2002

A great album that features songs like "NYMP", "Do It Again", "Come & Get Me", "Big Pimpin'" and "Dopeman". I've played this album millions of times and it's one of my favorites. There's only 2 or 3 bad songs on here but the good out way the bad. The only tracks I hate are "Pop 4 Rock", "S.Carter" and that Dre cut, everything else is slick.

King Of New York, For The Time Being....

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Oct 30, 2001

This album is dope, & I think 4 stars is defintiely a good judgement of this album. Jigga was probably the best MC at this moment in time, & things havent really changed that much. There are many hot songs on this album, howeva it also has its fair share of poor ones. Firstly starting off with the good. My fav song on the whole album would hav 2 be So Ghetto, DJ Premier & Hova show top form on this song. Other dope cuts are Do It Again (Beans is great, Jigga is greater & Amil spoils it), Dope Man, S. Carter (Amil there yet again, will u please go), Pop 4 ROC (Ok Amil it isnt funny now please go!!!!!), Big Pimpin, Is That Yo Bitch, NYMP, Anything & Jigga Ma Nigga (it took me 4eva 2 find this, jus let Anything run 4 about 3 mins). These are all dope tracks, cud be betta witout Amil. Thank god she has been dropped (if any of y'all hav red my Life After Death review dont get the wrong idea i dont hate all female MC's). Something else that i really enjoy about this album is the interludes. I usually find these a bit annoying and tedious, but the sample of The Burning Of The Midnight Lamp sounds really good. Howeva not everything on the album is good. Things That U Do is poor, It's Hot is ok, dope in parts (esp the start, then aint so dope), Snoopy Track with Juvenile is jus awful, like Amil, this album could have & should have been made without him. In my opinion Hey Papi, a bonus track, isnt that good eitha & he should have jus left it out. On a whole, this album is good but not good enuff 4 5 stars. Still the King Of New York tho.

    Really Good

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Sep 20, 2001

This cd is tight, straight up, but on the real, it's probably his worst. Songs like "So Ghetto" are classics that will be bumpin' forever, but then songs like the one with Mariah Carey are just too soft. Dope album, but the soft, radio friendly vibes tend to wear on ya.

    Not Bad

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Aug 11, 2001

Ok, this is arguably Jay's worst album of his now 5 LPs. Although the production was high profile, it seems rushed and the beats are mostly rough around the edges and hard to listen to. Of course Jay rips every track, being the incredible lyricist that he is. Producers include Swizz Beats, DJ Clue, Timbaland, Primo, Duro, and even Dr. Dre but none of the beats keep my interest eccept for "Hova Song" which acts as the intro and the outro. The album isn't what I expected from Jay-Z after the disgusting great Volume 2...maybe the expectation were a little too high but I was disapointed. Still though, because of Jay-Z ability on the mic it's still worthy of continuous play and its not bad party music. I'm not really sure whats missing but I'd still get it if you don't have it.

    Could have been better

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Sep 12, 2000

Don't front, this album is blazin', but it could have been better. Many of the tracks on the latter part of the album were lackluster. Lyrically, Jigga ripped the album. His mix of sharp wit and arrogance are fun to listen to, but through the course of the album, they become monotonous. To date, he still hasn't touched "Reasonable Doubt", but I know he'll eventually top that.

    jigga iz back

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Jul 10, 2000

over here in Africa we bump dis album like crazy. wit songs like the Timbaland-produced "big pimpin" & "do it again" Hova is just 2 baaaaaaaad. say what you want about jiggaman,he is still da man. this nigga is never going to stop. he spits flows with no effort at all. he's not the kind of rapper who puts in nice beats and a nice chorus and then says rubbish on the verses. his lyrics make sense;listen to "anything" & gain a lot of stuff especially from the third verse. maybe he gets a little too boastful on some tracks but it's forgivable. definitely one of the best albums i ever heard, though i prefer vol 2. buy it now!!
