Voices in the Wind is a surprisingly creative synth-pop effort by one of Christian Contemporary Music's blander songwriters, Teri DeSario. The record contains several songs with uncharacteristically catchy hooks and a few relatively successful sonic gimmicks. The opening "Celebrate," which is a tuneful praise song about the glory of God's creation, concludes with electronically simulated animal noises; it's a sort of cheaply constructed virtual jungle. The equally melodious title track, a hit on Christian radio, includes rhythmically timed readings of quotations from Hildegard of Bingen, Teresa of Avila, Meister Eckhart, and Julian of Norwich, which serve as encouraging "voices in the wind, whispering that beauty lies within." A similar technique is used on the final track, "All Day Thursday," a sort of techno-pop melodrama about a guilt-ridden embezzler who turns himself in after pulling off a sophisticated computer heist. The song features a running debate between "Christ" and "The E...vil One," who offer conflicting advice to the tormented criminal. "I Don't Wanna Be a Soldier" opens with the familiar strains of "Onward Christian Soldier" and concludes with synthesized marching sounds.
