The self-proclaimed "rebels with a cause" Last Resort made very ugly, sloppy punk music that bordered on heavy metal at times. Between slurred vocals that would make Sid Vicious proud, runny slabs of guitar that pass themselves off as riffs, and enough rebellious chants strung together to pass off as songs, Violence in Our Minds is more a pure document of politically aware rage than an actual song-filled album. Individually, these tracks sound like what they are: sloppy pop numbers performed aggressively. But when they're connected, the album is essentially a raging punk rock beast frothing at the mouth and just waiting to break out of its cage. The British scene was always packed with bands like this, but Last Resort has a certain charm and passion that's missing from many of their contemporaries. It may not be essential, but for a solid hour of hate rock, few bands can match the pure aggression found on this album.
