    Great

I've had Villains since it came out in '96, and it's still one of my favorites to listen to. Before "The Freshman" was released as a single, I fell in love with the version on the CD. I was disappointed when they revised a version for radio. The ori...ginal is untainted and beautiful. While some songs on this CD can get you in the mood to rock out, others let you relax and unwind.Check out this CD if you're into rock that's in between pop rock and hard rock. Definitely check it out if you're sick of what's on the radio today. It offers a nostalgic alternative to what we're bombarded with on the airwaves now.My favorite picks off the CD are: "Reverend Girl," "Villains," "Photograph," and "Ominous Man." Read more Less

Worth the money, but don't buy it if you want to hear the freshmen over and over again. Check out cup of tea, and there one song that can compare to the freshmen, reverend girl

The Verve Pipe made their major-label debut under the direction of producer Jerry Harrison with Villains, recasting themselves in the inauspicious mold of a post-grunge act. On an initial listen, the album does little to distinguish itself from the masses, though patient revisiting reveals a band of more depth, with Brian Vander Ark's songwriting improving vastly over previous albums and more subtle aspects, like the tasteful organic keyboard arrangements, actually adding texture and dimension to the sound. The band seemed to acknowledge the misstep by re-recording (yet again) "The Freshmen," for single release and subsequent pressings, which ultimately earned them their first national hit.
