    Good Stuff for Ol' Hippies

    Pros: Very Complete set

    Cons: Don't like 2 songs (out of 21)

    I'm an old Melanie fan who has not listened to her vinyl records in years, so when I found this CD I bought it on a lark. It didn't take me more than the first listen to be returned to the days when I listened to her. "Beautiful People&q...uot; is beautiful and emotional, if a bit naive. Melanie shines in "Lay Down" and "Peace Will Come." Some lesser quality - but essential Melanie - songs include "Brand New Key" (very childish) and "What Have They Done to My Song Ma?". Her covers (Stones "Ruby Tuesday," Dylan's "Mr. Tamborine Man," "Lay Lady Lay", James Taylor's "Carolina on My Mind")are very fine and different enough from the originals to enjoy. They could have omitted "I Don't Eat Animal" and "Christopher Robin is Saying His Prayers." Not everything from the sixties is worth hearing again. Read more Less
