Pro Reviews: Very Best Of Johnny Guitar Watson: Gangster Love

EXPERT RATING:

From AMG Reviews

The 25 tracks on Very Best of Johnny Guitar Watson: Gangster of Love were originally recorded in the '50s and contain the majority of his extraordinary gritty blues of the era including "Motor Head Baby," "Those Lonely Lonely Nights," and "Gangster Of Love." The absolute highlight is "Space Guitar," a track that was not only way ahead of its time, but inspired Watson, known at the time as a pianist, to make the guitar his primary instrument. Those who are checking out this era of Watson's discography for the first time may want to pass on this disc and, instead, pick up Rhino's The Very Best of Johnny "Guitar" Watson as it contains the essential "Three Hours Past Midnight."
