    Janet's Personal Side.

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Oct 18, 2006

    Pros: Everything

    Cons: Nothing

Since 1993's "Janet", Ms. Jackson has been shocking us with some subject matters in her songs. Boy, did she shock us with this one. I was in 6th grade when this came out and it's still on heavy rotation in my CD player (along with 20 Y.O and Michael's albums from off the wall on). She takes us into her imagination and trust me, you'll learn a lot from her. You wanna know Janet? Pick this up.....either that or ask The Jackson Clan about her.

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Sep 15, 2006

    Pros: Quality of Songs

    Cons: Not of Enough Songs...

Even though this LP has 22 tracks, I feel like it should be atleast 25+, this was a masterpiece of its time. Timeless music, that can be listened to 20 years from now and still be relevant.

    Definetive album

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Nov 25, 2005

Pros: Best Work, Lyrics Extraordinary, Beats Hot

Cons: Needs More Songs, Could improve on certain things

Once again in 1997 after the release of Design of A Decade 1986/1996 it seems the only song we could count on for Janet was the beautiful, "Twenty Foreplay" But this album is remarkable. Most songs define what she's going through right now.

It all starts with "Twisted Elegance" which has a ball room scratched disc feel and it introduces the Velvet Rope. It invites you into the story of the Velvet Rope.

"Velvet Rope" featuring Vanessa Mae, the extraordinary violinist tells the story of the ideas of the velvet rope. Why the creator built this.

"You" is more of a uptempo anger song which tells the story of a person who's depressed and drops it on people and should change there ways. It really gives you that look inside of what went on in Gary, Indiana.

"Got Til' It's Gone" tells the tale of a woman who wants the boyfriend she broke up with to come back. It's like the prequel to "Come Back To Me" Q-Tip does a great rap and using the Joni Mitchell "Big Yellow Taxi" is a wonderful way of making the song seem better.

"Speakerphone" is so silly. But I can't spoil the suprise except that the interlude has one of Janet's best buds, Shaniqua Davis on the phone.

"My Need" is a song about masturbation which doesn't actually say it. It could be about lust or masturbation. But you really have to get use to the song before repetitive playback.

"Fasten Your Seatbelts" is all about Janet's friends including the infamous Shaniqua on a roller coaster at an amusement park.

"Go Deep" which was a single is just having fun and partying with your friends.

"Free Xone" is about coming out of the closet and loving yourself no matter who you are. It's very remarkable and the beginning where homophobia comes in is just so different. Great beats and melodies also.

"Memory" as you know Janet has great quotes and this is another quote.

"Together Again" is probably the biggest song on this album. They play this song I gay clubs everywhere. But you wonder she's dancing at death does that scare you?

"Online" ever want to listen to yourself online here it is.

"Empty" is probably the best song on this album. I learned a lot from this song. Close your eyes and visualize the love of life. And youre no longer empty. The song defines the album. The album defines me. It seems like all the songs are just on me. I love it. I know you will.

"What About" is banging hot anger fueled and adrenaline rushing. The story of domestic abuse has never been told like this.

"Every Time" is beautiful but should have been given to Mariah. It makes you cry sometimes. Even though it was a bad single.

"Tonight's The Night" is very cool. It's seen in the eyes of a man who going to give a girl the loss of her virginity. It's a Rod Stewart classic.

"I Get Lonely" is the biggest single. It topped the RNB charts and shows the Velvet rope audio and video.

    "Rope Burn" sexy sexy sexy.

"Anything" sexy but not like Rope Burn.

"Sad" is another infamous quote by the Icon.

"Special/Strong Enough" is just a outro to the album.

This is where I begin tuning out

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Jun 18, 2001

Being a big fan of Janet ever since her Control days I was dissapointed with this. I mean Janet has incredible that few can rival. However this album does not show that much of it. It's boring and dull. She sounds like every other R&B artist who came onto the music recently.

This album does have good moments. I like Together Again. I like Go Deep as. And Empty is beautiful. But on the other hand Got Till It's Gone is awful. The rest of this album is below average. I,m not saying that this album is bad or anything but this one fell far Far short of what I expected from Janet.

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Jun 17, 2001

It's soulful, it's charming. It makes you feel alive, it's unexplainable. There's something that Janet expresses through her music that makes her sound unique. The album is true 2 me & beautiful.

    Pretty good actually

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Apr 26, 2001

A while back I wrote a review about this album that was negative and unfair. I gave it a few more tries and I found it to be good. There are some great moments on this CD such as Go Deep, Together Again, and Empty. These songs do Janet justice and are classics. But there also some bad tracks on here. Got til It's Gone is one of the most boring and uninspiring songs Janet has ever written. Everytime starts somewhere and goes nowhere. The video didn't do it for me either. I was a bit dissapointed with this album at first but it eventually grew on me. It's a good album but I find it to be her weakest since Dream Street.

Considering 'Erotica' was about sex, with one track examining the homophobia/aids issue, I am interested where you draw this comparison. To be frank 'Erotica' was the lowest, critically slammed, point of Madonna's career. 'The Velvet rope' may not be flawless but it was praised by many critics and deals with much more than base sexual expression on a crass and tedious level; that being the primal achievement of 'Erotica'. Therefore go and listen to both of the albums again and in future avoid writing insults in allorgical prose; it only serves to make you appear more retarded than you probably are.

This young woman has "ALWAYS" been a Lady while working in a very vicious professional. I thank her mother for planting the seed that "her alternate power" is her heavenly father. She learned from experience that just because her job is publicized, she has a GOD Given Right to Keep her Business HERS!

    Good Job Angelgirl!!!!

Now, take some time and enjoy your beautiful life.....ENJOY.....ENJOY!
    !!!

    PS:
The entertainment arena is so crazy....one day they love you, the next you're going to the dogs...Everything has a "price tag on it!"

Yes, MTV was a day late and a buck short....If you had to be classified (which you don't...even in your weak periord) to help you realize who or what you are, they are so wrong. You were already an ICON! Your spirit, your soul has always been above and beyond....You've been an BLAZING flame since the day you were born; and no one on this earth could EVER put it out!

I admirer you....but you take care of you now!!!

    Smooches!
    An older FAN.....
