Abre Los Ojos
Pros: Fascinating, Beautiful, Surprising
Cons: A few cheesy moments, too surprising for some
At first, this is kind of a light-hearted, fun love story with a rich Tom Cruise, his beautiful Friend-with-benefits, and the beautiful new love interest. It becomes something else fairly quickly, a story of a man struggling to regain what he once had. Finally, it totally changes gear later in the movie, and is something quite different than what it had been. All around, this is an awesome movie, everything comes together in the end (if in a convenient, Hollywood sort of way) and you've got all your answers. I love this movie, Penelope Cruz is SO HOT! This is based fairly closely on the Spanish movie, "Abre Los Ojos", in which Cruz plays the same role.

Pros: Interesting Storyline
Cons: HORRIBLE ENDING - Wast of Time
I cann't believe that people are so stupid that this movie not only was successful but that it actually was nominated for awards. I am mad at anyone that has ever seen this movie and not warned others. I am especially mad at anyone that not only accepted this ending, but that enjoyed it.
Let me ask you this - why can't every movie end this way? It could if people keep accepting it. This is the reason that seasons of the hottest new shows (Lost, 24, etc.) can just end without any resolution and people line up again next year waiting for more of the same. (nothing) What is a story without an ending? (or, with a brain-dump ending that can be plugged in anywhere a real ending doesn't exist)
I picture Hollywood types laughing this kind of thing up in their hot tubs filled with champagne and beautiful women.
And, for the record, I "understood" the movie and the messages -including the "careful how you treat others" and "actions have consequences", both of which were taught in the first half hour. I am mad about the next two hours -which were a waste.Was this review helpful? Yes - NoStuped!

tom cruise must have gotten paid a lot of movie to make this movie cause after i watched it i failed a army exam the next morning after a month of studying i didnt even get my name right this was the most confusing and weirdest movie i ever seen this made all the right moves look like a masterpeice

Pros: I was mental after watching it the first time.

DO NOT WATCH THIS MOVIE ALONE. If you watch this movie alone, you will almost certainly be calling someone afterwards and confusing them. So, watch it with someone else. Secondly, you might hate it. I'm sure the director might hate your work as well. Get over it. One thing is for sure, you will want to talk about it when the credits stop rolling. Isn't that the ultimate goal of anyone's work. It makes a difference in people's lives, whether that be a good or bad thing. In all my life, I have never responded to a movie in this way. It's mind blowing. You will feel like your insides have been twisted around a few times. Haven't felt that way since I found out my girlfriend's hair isn't naturally blonde. (I'll leave that wide open, pound away!)

I usually don't waste my time writing reviews, but this movie is a special case. Yes, it is over 2 years old and no one probably cares to see it if they haven't already,but I felt it important to try and convince anyone reading this to see it. This film's main point is the utter lack of compassion many people experience in relationships and personal interaction, as well as the consequence of carelessness. This film will leave you questioning your behavior and cherishing the love you have/had. The soundtrack is amazing and well-placed. I've never really been a Tom Cruise fan, with the possible exception of Interview with the Vampire, but I'm hooked now. Cruise has a vulnerable tenderness I don't believe could have been achieved by most actors. IF you have any sense, you will buy this movie. My only regret is that I didn't get it on dvd. Yet.

This was an excellent remake of the spanish movie "Abre los ojos." At first I liked it more than the original, but i learned to appreciated the qualities of both. Cameron's version is more surreal and has a better soundtrack while the other is raw. Anyway, I loved it.

Tom Cruise was excellent in this movie! I loved the whole twist, I love being surprised like that. It leaves you wondering and at the edge of your seat. I loved it! Futuristic and clevor! Must see!

Not everybody likes sci-fi's, PuckHead442001. How's this for a mind boggler?... This movie (Vanilla Sky) is a remake of another (Open Your Eyes).

...While watching vanilla sky I was reminded of a much better "dream style" thriller: Total Recall. Where has originality gone?

I guess what sums it all is what happiness or heaven is in your state of mind. It similar to "total recall" or the "sixth day" in a sense of can you believe in the reality of your mind. In the end, he got rid of his s and began his heaven even if his life's reality was a nightmare.

I thought that this was one of the best movies I have ever seen. Previous to seeing this movie I had not heard good things but I watched anyways. It is a movie that makes you think and you have to really pay attention to everything. Pretty much the whole movie was forshadowing the end. It was similar to a thriller where you find out who did it in the end but this time much more thought provoking. If you like this type of movie I would suggest seeing Memento also.

After watching the extras on the DVD, I wonder how many people working on the movie really understood it. I think that Crowe's whole point was to make a movie to be debated. What one person gets out of it may be completely different from what another person gets. The "twist" at the end was not a shock. I am probably the only female in the world who thinks Tom Cruise is ass-ugly, not a fan at all. I actually think he looked better after the accident. Worth a look if you are a movie buff, but if you just want to be entertained, try something else.

Using Kid A Cameron Crowe, expresses a deeper meaning to life, than just the norm. Sci-fi yeah in a sense of cryogenics. Obsession to a object ends in a downfall for david. So very long lived the life of pretty much god. Then awaking a change with sophia to better his company and tragedy gets him. I am not here this isnt happening kid A RH.

Tom has mananaged to do it again. Make another totally self absorbed boring movie on the same format as "Eyes Wide Shut". This movie convinced me that I will never ever watch another Tom Cruise movie..It was simply terrible..a REAL Stinker..I HATED THIS MOVIE!! It gets a thumbs down from my whole family. F-

You have to watch this movie twice. The first time for the ride. The second time to catch all the clues that he is dreaming. Great movie, original, and it doesn't insult the viewer's intelligence. Alot of people might not have liked it, probably the "fast and the furious" crowd. If you liked Mullholland Dr. you'll like this.

Throughout the whole movie you can never tell if it was a dream or real. The last 10 min of the movie was the only time you understood the movie. I'll think again about seeing a movie with Tom Cruise in it.
