Pros: Laughs Galore!
Cons: Laughs Galore! (you may need oxygen)
From the opening scene this movie takes you on a joyride that you never want to get off of! If laughing causes a sharp pain to your belly when you do too much of it, then by all means avoid this movie!
Pros: A Laugh A Minute
Cons: None!
I saw this movie at the drive-in (when there were still drive-ins!) with a bunch of my high-school friends. We laughed so hard -- it was the best time EVER at the movies. I don't think I've laughed so hard in years. I bought it on DVD a few months ago and watched it again -- I still laughed just as hard at it. It is definitely a classic, must-have. Not for kids. Trust me!
It's raunchy, bawdy, hilarious fun. Not a dud joke in the entire movie. A must-own. And Al Lewis as the hanging judge (with props on his bench) is lots of fun. Definitely not for young children, tho. It probably would be considered closer to PG-13 movie than an R rated movie now.
And remember, red cars are bad luck.
don't listen to jeff. this movie is a classic. it was made before high-tech was needed to make us laugh. the movie is an awesome portrayl of the times, and people, and is so funny. i'm happy to see it on DVD, i'll get one.
This is not just a funny movie. It's the funniest movie to come out of Hollywood in the last 30 years (Young Frankenstein a close second). Kurt Russell reminds me of all the old used car salesmen I knew growing up in Oklahoma. And they're all still there. Bless that dog. He knows how to wake people up! Just rent it and enjoy it. Don't try to disect it. It's just all for fun!
One of the funniest movies I have ever seen! I remember watching it on cable with my dad just before he died. I never heard him laugh so hard. That alone is testament to this film's ability to do what it was meant to do - entertain.
rates up there with bubble boy, freddy got fingered, glitter, etc.
I remember this movie growing up, I was no more than 16 yrs old. My dad and watched it and we never laughed so hard in our lives. There is never a dull moment in the entire film, just non stop one liners and original comedy. My favorite scene is the live cut-in broadcast during the presidential speach. "Wait just a G-damn minute, is this a mercedes with power steering, power windows....and price of $$$, that's too F-in high". This movie was a failure at the box office, however it was a huge success on VHS, To own this on DVD is a dream come true, if you never saw this movie, go buy this DVD and have the prepare to laugh your ass off.
Not about cars as much as about political ambition and what money will buy (sound familiar?). Script is wild and irreverent (too irreverent with some language) that, today, seems ahead of its time. Jack Warden does an excellent job with twin brother roles, Russell never has been better, in my opinion, and the "used taxi" scam is original. I laughed long and loud at the outrageous tv spots they produce for their car lot. Did I say that I like this film a lot???
