Pros: Guns'N'Roses expand their sound
Cons: Not always successfully
Axl Rose had very lofty dreams for the Use Your Illusion CD's.
String arrangements, orchestras, cover songs; if he could think of it, he threw it in here.
Standout songs include...Right Next Door To Hell, Dust'N'Bones, Live And Let Die, Don't Cry (Original), November Rain, The Garden, and Garden Of Eden.
Definately worth checking out.

And this album is the best too, better than the bull
(Grunge, Alternative, Nu Metal)
Lots of people say that AFD is their best album. I think the UYI (both of em) are slightly better. Think about it...the songs are written on a more personal level. November Rain will always be my favorite song. Is this album better than UYI-2? I'm not gonna think about that any more. Every album they ever put out was awesome..let's leave it at that.
This is a great album. I don't know if anything can ever live up to Appetite, but this is close.
If you don't like Guns and Roses, then why are you wasting your time, posting to this board?
axl is a whining
Well, at least I think it is. Not one bad song on it. "November Rain" is the best song on this album. If you don't have this album, get it! You will like it!
not my favorite gnr album but a large amount of songs help this get 5 stars, nothing really terrible here and most of the songs are pretty good
I love this record, in my opinion it's GNR's best (slightly better than UYI 2), this is a big step up from AFD, especially the lyrics, Axl has really improved.
Obviously AXL & Slash are the biggest stars of the band, but the secret star is IZZY, and he shines brightest on this CD, especially on "Double Talkin' Jive" which is the best song on the album.
Matt Sorum's drumming is also a highlight on this cd.

It's a great album by Guns N' Roses. I know it was hard for them to fill out two entire album full of consistently entertaining material. I just brought the albums last friday and it was money well spent. They managed to dish out some traditional G N'R tunes as well as expand their horizons. They pulled it off quite well too. The Use Your Illusions set is much better than the Load albums by Metallica.
When it comes to this great set such as this, save your money and buy both of them at the same time if you don't already own them. They're both the same album with the same ambitions and ideas and you can't have one without the other or else you will feel half satisfied.
i don't know were to start. its all good!!!
guns n roses does it again oh hell yeah this is phat i love this album and who ever else dont can SUCK MY DICK
Use Your Illusion I and II are, in my opinion, 2 of the greatest albums ever made. Every song is not only listenable, but enjoyable. These albums are so good, I'm not that mad at Axl for not making new music for a decade, cuz the music he made is that good. Here's hopin' he FINALLY makes another album, and if it's half as good as the Use Your Illusion discs, it's still better than most music out today...
I LOVE ALL SONGS ESPECIALLY NOVEMBE RRAIN, BAD APPLES , DON'T CRY, DEAD HORSE.
bad obsession , its always messin in my mind Yea!
use your illusion 1 the best...
Axl's voice got more and more whiny and nasally as the band progressed. His singing was definetely best in Appetite.
The whole album rocks!!!!!
It's good to come across a fellow Guns fan. I
don't recall Axl ever saying that the Illusion albums
"weren't on par" with Appetite. He did say that, while
many people's favorite song might be on Illusion 1 or
2, Appetite had always been looked at as the
definitive Guns N' Roses album.
In my opinion, it's like
comparing apples to oranges. Appetite was certainly
"leaner" and "meaner." But the Illusions had much deeper
songwriting. And if you took the twelve best songs on them
both and lined them up with the twelve songs on
Appetite, they easily equal it......
hey best gnr fan, i totally agree with you....axl's lyrics are mindblowing.....only to the people who understand it...lol....although axl says that illusion 1 & 2 were not at par with appitite.....i think with the release of these two albums......i'd call them musicians......there was nothing like them and there will be nothing like them...period!!!!
Another boring album from the most overrated band. Uninspired guitar playing, and terrible vocals. Only thing that makes up for this piece of trash is knowing that they broke up and won't make anymore like it.
While 'Appetite For Destruction' remains a
classic, 'Use Your Illusion I' is the best GNR album. More
accomplished and layered than their endearingly raw debut,
this record is a byword for talented musicians really
pushing themselves to make the very best music they
can.
Curtain-raiser 'Right Next Door To Hell' leads into the wondrous
'Dust 'n' Bones', a sullen, bluesy rock song with Izzy
Stradlin's vocals (also featured on Double Talkin' Jive)
proving more than a match for W. Axl Rose's.
Rose is
the star of the show, however, and his vocal
versatility is highlighted in all its rich glory throughout
'UYI1', alternately sneering ('Bad Obsession'),
screeching ('Perfect Crime'), crooning ('Don't Cry') and
growling ('Don't Damn Me').
'Bad Obsession' and 'Bad
Apples' echo the very best of The Rolling Stones; 'Live
and Let Die' is covered with vivacity and bite;
'Garden Of Eden' is a brilliant thrasher; 'Don't Cry' and
'November Rain' fill the ballad slots more than
competently. The record ends with Slash and Rose's epic
'Coma', a harrowing tale of a suicide attempt juxtaposed
with an addictive, slightly creepy riff.
Without
question the stronger of the Use Your Illusion albums,
this record sees GNR surpass themselves once again to
create another classic rock album.
This album contains a couple of ballads that could make your soul turn inside out, I mean Don't cry & November rain. I'm listening to them from the very first time I heard them till now and still like them a lot. Also there are some other good songs.
We will never hear a song like November Rain again. The album combines great ballads like Don't Cry and Live and Let Die. Coma, Dead Horse, and Dust N' Bones are the best fast songs on the album.
