From AMG Reviews

Recorded immediately after the Velvet Revolution that drove the Communists out of Czechoslovakia, Uprostred Slov (In the Middle of Words) is Uz Jsme Doma's first album. The group had already been active in the underground for five years. Needless to say, the band was already ultra-tight and eager to record. The LP opens with "Ámen," a hymn to liberation. Its lyrics translate to: "Not just body/But spirit too/Not just fate/But hope too." Calm and solemn, this introductory moment stands as the great deceiver. It is soon trampled by the group's unstoppable rock roller coaster, the remainder of the album being filled with raw punk energy and challenging rock-in-opposition structures. The rhythmic foundations laid by the two Pavels (drummer Pavlicek and bassist Kerka) point definitely to punk, but the dual saxophone lines and singer Miroslav Wanek's occasional forays into a falsetto register (as in the memorable "Soubor Opatrení") bring a quirkiness that would eventually become a trademark not only for the group but also for the whole Czech alternative/avant-rock scene. Not as impressive on a compositional level as Nemilovany Svet or Pohádky ze Zapotrebí, Uprostred Slov makes nonetheless a stunning debut and is inhabited by a stronger sense of urgency. Highlights include the moving melody on "Julecek," the nine-minute title track (a condensed epic by itself), and "Sopot." The album was first released as an LP by Globus in 1990. Indies reissued it on CD in 1996 (and again in 2001), adding three bonus tracks from the same studio sessions and translated lyrics in the booklet.
