Houston guitarist Goree Carter's slashing late-'40s/early-'50s sides for Freedom display a strong T-Bone Walker influence, though his best-known effort, the storming "Rock Awhile," kicks a lot harder than Walker's elegant output. These 14 sides are fine examples of the horn-leavened Lone Star sound of the early '50s; while derivative, Carter was a very competent axe-handler.
