This is an amazing movie. It is a great action movie between vampires and lycens (warewolves). The special effects, color, and costuming is to die for. The plot is interesting with action and love woven in together.

I have seen many vampire and werewolf movies and i have to say that at least this one is original. The fight scenes are intriguing and the plot is dark. if you like dark movies this one is for you.

The war between vampires and werewolves... and a Romeo&Julitete - like story in it. We follow the character of Seline (Kate Beckinsale) who is an warewolf hunter for the vampires (and is a vampire herself) who stumbels on a interesting anomaly that could change the outcome of the centuries-long war. She discoveres who started the conflict and has to chose between love and the... "career" .The Director Len Wiseman brought us an new, interesting film in the genre.

This is a story about a vampire woman trapped in the middle of a battle between vampires and werewolves. Get this plot-twist; she falls for a werewolf guy! Imagine! It's like Romeo & Juliet meet Count Chocula. The plot is so stock it comes with a barcode. Luckily, the allure of the movie does not reside in the fantastically ridiculous story.
This is a visual film. In most cases, rich stylization of the likes that make this film of effective is usually a movie's undoing. From the color choices to the effective use of lighting, I was attracted to how the film looked more than what the film was doing. That said, the vampire vs. werewolf deal, while silly, does hold some inherent interest for my geekier side.
The performances in the film are notable considering what the actors are doing and saying. Kate Beckinsale is a good actress, and works well in the roles she has been popping up in. Unlike her role in the terrible Van Helsing (2004), her lead performance as Selene in this movie has the benefit of being a developed character. Beckinsale offers a brooding and attractive performance that manages to hold the whole piece together. Her interactions with Bill Nighly as Viktor (the ever present "original" vampire) are some of the best scenes in the whole film. Nighly presents a somewhat realistic portrayal of his character, which is saying something since this whole piece is a circus of goofiness.Was this review helpful? Yes - NoUnder-rated!

Cons: Having to put up with all the White Wolf hype
If you are a fan of classic horror, then you will really enjoy this film. You take many of the traditional concepts of vampirism and lycanthropy and twist them to allow both "races" of creatures to exisit in modern society. Point is, they aren't doing it peacefully! The movie provides you with enough background to allow a first timer to the world of vamps vs werewolves to understand the plot and to fall in love with the characters.
Though there is a lot of hoopla about the story being taken directly from White Wolf gaming, I feel there is enough first hand creativity and not enough duplication to warrant this claim. I think White Wolf is just upset that someone else did a better job with a concept that they didn't think of first! Did you see their attempt at TV? Ewwww! Anyway...the gaming is awesome for the gaming perspective as the movie is from the Hollywood perspective!!! Appaulse to both parties for doing what they do best! If we are going to get all personal about it...then everyone should be in trouble because neither group thought up the concept of vampires and werewolves to begin with! I did! In a previous life and I am really ticked off! LOL

Rather you are a vampire lover or not, Underworld is a must see. It's crammed full of action, adventure, and some great special effects. The story line is well thought out and easy to follow yet believable as well. I can't say enough about the actors, the stunts, and the overall fantastic results of this movie. Underworld proves that you don't need big names to create an A+ movie. Two thumbs way up!

I have seen a lot of vampire movies and I have seen a few werewolf movies. This is by far the best of both. Kate Beckinsale is such a great actress for this role. The action is amazing and the plot is captivating. Two thumbs up from me. Way up!
